£89.99 off on this laptop. With a student code it brings this down to £656. Does anyone think it's worth it at £656? Read the screen is pretty crap but not sure what other laptop with similar specs and better screen are available! any recommendations of other laptops worth looking at appreciated! After a portable 13" one for uni!

specs:
i7-7500U kaby lake processor
1080p ips screen
16gb ram
256gb ssd
2 in 1
1.6kg

Update: went to see this in John Lewis. Screen is very dim. Not fit for purpose if i'm honest. At maximum setting, you have to concentrate hard to read something on the screen. Shame really. Also it felt a bit cheap in real life. Might wait for the xps 13 to be discounted again!

Good price even without the student discount I think!

Those specs are quite beefy. Maybe try get the i5 dell xps 13 kaby lake for £800~ off dell outlet? You sacrifice ram and the i7 for an immaculate screen and build quality.

I had a look on the store - couldn't see that one? I had a look at the xps in store though and I didn't like the QHD+. The scaling is really messed up so i'm sticking with 1080p I think. Will try find the one you suggested again.

You've got me scared now. What is your experience of dell? I've never bought anything from them before but I have read some bad reviews about their customer service when things go wrong! Oh and there's a 1x1* review on the john lewis website for this!

hi blue I got the I5 8gb 256gb version from the outlet pre blackfriday for under 500 quid my wife loves it we have had all of our machines from the outlet on a couple of occasions where theirs been a fault the repairs have been great. people are anti dell occasionally here as their site can be a bit random spec wise and pricing can be irregular ie better component in same she'll costing less than a lesser model also if buying from the outlet seriously consider a scratch and dent out of the last three we have had only one has had the minutist of a scratch to the plastic never the screen

I Neil, thanks for the reply. Good to hear from someone who actually has the machine. Have you had any problem with the touch pad or keyboard and is the screen good to use in terms of viewing angle etc etc? I read a few reviews online that said the screen wasn't bright enough and the viewing angles were poor etc etc. Good to know about the scratch and dent reality. Finally, if you do buy from the outlet, do you still get a 1 year warranty?

You're right. I ordered a laptop on Monday in which payment was declined. Re-book of the payment via customer service is just a nightmare. Their customer service will left you frustrations and anger if you have not had a smooth order. Good luck. Price is attractive though, I 'm now assuming I have no warranty with their appalling customer service.

The case is plastic and wears rapidly on either side of the trackpad where your palms rest. The plastic becomes rough, looks dirty and is just poor. I know - I own one.

They also heat up and when they do the fan comes on but seems to have a tough time cooling the device. The battery loses its life pretty rapidly despite numerous attempts at recalibrating it. I am lucky to get 2 hours, sometimes 3.

The screen is very good though.

I checked out this machine in John Lewis today. Felt quite cheap compared to my unibody macbook pro and the screen wasn't bright enough. I gave the xps 13" another look and the full HD one was quite nice. I didn't like the QHD+ one, but the FHD one is better in my opinion. No scaling issues as with the QHD+ and an added bonus of a much improved battery life due to a less dense screen!

it appears on outlet a couple of times a week - people snap them up real fast due to excess demand. just check regularly around 8pm and you'll see it appear one day.

no problems with key pad and touch functionality on screen is good just charged it after two days of light use, I couldn't complain about the screen and it's angles also the sound wasn't bad for such a slim design, yes you get 1yr return to Base or 49 for home repair, the outlet offers regularly change between free delivery or increased warranty cover.

Do you find the screen brightness a bit low? I was comparing it to the lenovo with both on maximum settings in the store and the dell screen brightness seems a bit too low for my living. I felt like I was straining my eyes to read what was on the screen. Bitterly disappointed
