No, I have been assimilated into the Borg collective.

I am looking for a basic machine around the £250 area. This seems to tick the boxes. Would there be any benefit to uping the RAM to 3 or 4 Meg (£20 or £40). Or even the 800mhz for a tenner.

The only other thing is vista: There are a lot of people saying vista is pants. Are these you average home user or more high powered users? The last computer I bought was back in the day when XP first appeared and lots of people were putting that down. But for what I was using it for it was great. Never had any problems.

Any thoughts.

Its a tough call with Vista, on my desktop pc it runs perfectly, on a par with xp with just a different feel to it, but on my dell laptop seems very buggy and sluggish making me wish i'd opted for XP on that for same price.

Unless running 64 bit windows or another O/S 3GB with the CPU upgrade is probably better value as vista 32 bit can't see much over 3Gb. I have 4Gb in the same system and it can see 3.25.

Vista for me is fine although a couple of my peripherals no longer work as drivers are not available and some s/ware can't be made to work.

Naa not worth upgrading to 4GB, with vista. It will only recognise bout 3.5GB any way. So unless downgrading to XP, leave the RAM and if needs be ebuyer or places will be cheaper. Vista isnt that bad, some people like it some dont. Quite a few bugs have been ironed out now, i use XP, Vista and OS X leopard.

its not vista or XP that causes it to see or not see more ram... its if the OS is 32 or 64 bit. and both versions have.. both versions

Isn't the base unit £319 inc vat and delivery ?

oh it is £259 Sorry !!

Just ordered over the phone for £243.
£2 better Quidco price. Should have haggled really as that was the first price he gave me.

Do you know if there's much of a difference in speed you'll get with the standard 2Gb 666MHz RAM, or should you match bus speeds and pay the £10 more for the 2Gb 800MHz RAM?
