I was looking at the HP deal and was about to go for it but wasn't happy with the need to completely take it apart to upgrade it, plus we all know HP build quality is pants (speaking from experience).

This is a Dell refurb with full Dell Warranty.

There are several Models to pick from, personally I went for the i7 with 256gb ssd, and dedicated graphics for another £150 but was very very close to buying this model for pure value for money.

There are loads of others available but I have filtered out the 5570 and 7570 as I think they offer great value. They also have the latest USB C ports with Power on delivery!!

Some have fingerprint readers and some don't, also some have disc drives and others don't.

How good are Radeon 530's compared to equivalent Nvidia (mx940 4GB, Mx150)?
I almost posted this the other day as purchased for my wife. Have some heat anyway

Not quite as good as the MX940 but leaps over the HD5000, they can play the majority of games at full HD with no visible lag from what I've read.

This video review shows the i5 model play GT5 at full HD

To get the models I have listed, filter, i5 and i7, then Model 5570
I got the £443 one, to be honest I missed the i5 with the 4gb video card but this should still be fine for my wife. Was very tempted by the i7 but don't think she would use the extra power 😁

To be honest the difference is only 8-14%, for most uses you wouldn't even notice. I do a lot of processor intensive graphic design though so the extra oomph is welcome. I reckon for 90% of people that want a laptop for browsing and Uni work etc the £443 one will be amazing, it's no slouch, although an SSD upgrade will be almost essential IMO.
fingers crossed for a Cheap XPS 13 i7 16GB of Ram.......I dobut it
apart form the question on build quality what is the difference here ? between :

and this ?
Yes I know there 's 4GB more RAM but you pay another £40 for that and it's a refurb not new , is there something else that I am missing to say why the Dell is the compelling deal of the two ?

Extra 4gb ram
CD/DVD Drive
Finger Print reader and Microsoft Hello
Aluminium Chasis and Casing
USB C Power on Delivery
Arguably better screen
etc

I am in no way saying the HP deal is bad, I was shocked to see a coffee lake i5 for under £400. But it really does need the extra 4gb ram with having integrated graphics which use the ram. So factoring that in, you need to spend £30-£40 on ram which invalidates your warranty. The dell you can upgrade the HDD with keeping your warranty intact.

This one also has an empty Ram slot so easy to make it 16gb in the future if needed, and can go up to 32gb.

The advanatages the HP has is 1. It's new. 2. It has a 4 cell battery compared to the 3 cell on this, Not sure how that will compare in the real world useage but it should be better.

same. I need a new Dev machine for work and my 6th gen i5 just isnt cutting it anymore
Ok this might be a stupid question... but do I need to add in a power supply, there is no mention of one in the details, and it gives me an option to buy one..

No, it comes with one

The optional ones are the battery back ups, for charging on the go.

Mine should arrive tomorrow. It's to replace an aging i5 dell laptop so will be night and day anyway. Hopefully the hard drive will be accessible to replace with an SSD. I was put off the HP deal due to the fact the whole thing needed stripping apart to upgrade the ram!

Exactly, there's an unboxing of this and there is a panel underneath with 4 screws which is for HDD
Does refurbished still means it's new (returned or faulty then fixed etc) ?
Or could it mean someone had one for a while so it's effectively 2nd hand?
Very tempted but concerned it might be damaged / scratched - as it's a present.
Also does it still come boxed like a new Laptop?

(Sorry for all the questions!)
There's 3% cashback on topcashback for Dell outlet (8% non-outlet) if that helps anyone

Probably new but will have dents/scratches.

I bought a desktop from the outlet that had dents but was brand new. Didn't care because it goes under the desk.

Bought both laptops and desk machines via the outlet and all appear to have been new.

If there is just one or two, then they may well be scratched or returns. If there are a lot more then they are probably cancelled orders. You need to check each one that is being offered.

There are two categories from the Outlet store, "Certified Refurbished" and "Scratch and Dent", I've had a few of the certified refurbished models and haven't noticed any marks on them, I've had one Scratch and Dent and it did have some markings on the underside of the laptop (looks like it been pushed around on a desk).

Going for the 5579 2-in-1 (no extra discount but £200 cheaper than new).

A certified refurb (as opposed to a Scrath & Dent) from Dell should not have scratches or dents and will look/feel as new. However, it my experience they will not come in a normal retail box so it will be pretty obvious to anyone in the know that it isn't new. That has never concerned me but it might bother you if you are planning to give as a present.

Similar to the 5570, it has a sleeker look but is actually a fraction thicker. It also has a narrower keyboard, no number pad, looks closer to the Apple macbook Pro
