Nice all round spec on this one, 2gig of ram ready for Vista. The core2 duo cpu runs 667mhz fsb, it has a proper 128meg graphics card and 3yrs AV thrown in for good measure.

Doh! Of course lol Think you're right

bit expensive, there are £600 core 2's with these specs, ram aint 667mhz either. not too bad, but not a bargain either.

good post tho.

nice specs for the laptop. but i have been trying to find a laptop for sub £700 for last three days and i just cant seem to find any better deal than this laptop:
comet.co.uk/com…294

it have faster processer than the dell, geforce 7300 with 512 mb memory, 1.3 mega pixel webcam and windows xp media center with free vista upgrade. only £689 plus 3.5% cashback through quidco.

if anybody know a better deal than this than can you please let me know. i have to buy a laptop in next two days.

Rommy that is quite a nice spec laptop, perhaps Jack can fill us in on the battery time as it says only 2hrs on Comet. Does it have firewire if thats important to you or an express or pciama slot?

I would favour the zoomstorm with those specs but its not going to be any use to you if you have just 2 days to get one in.

Like the specs, but going by the comments in the PCAdvisor forum, I would not use PCNextday.

I've been after a laptop since Christmas and by chance I've bought the Dell one mentioned here. Probably worth mentioning that Dell are one of the few companies that seem to do better deals over the phone than online. I managed to get extra discount but you have to weigh it up against Quidco.

I'd narrowed my choice down to ACER, Zoostorm and Dell. My findings below.

Zoostorm - Great price and spec, but for every 5 good reviews, you got a really nasty story. Any dealings with after sales and you're in trouble.

Acer - Good price and spec. Main gripe is battery life. Also I don't live on the mainland and have non-delivery from Comet. (Also been informed the screens are very average)

Dell - Quite Good price and spec. Cheap upgrade (£23) to a 5.5 hour 9 cell battery (max!). Custom made to your needs.

Just my research over the last few weeks. Probably turn out the Dell is a Turkey!

Hi Mike, can I just clarify that any graphics card that says "Hyper Memory" is not a dedicated graphics card mate.

This one says 128MB ATI® Mobility Radeon® X1300 HyperMemory graphics card, which really only has a 32mb of dedicated graphics. Any 256mb version has 128mb of dedicated graphics.

These are not all bad, in fact they play games quite well if your not into heavy eye candy as these are the new age of onboard graphics along with the GeForce Go series (The Go series carry even less dedicated ram, 128mb comes in tow flavours and has only 16mb or 32mb with the 256mb only 64mb). They are a lot better than the onboard graphics of old but it can be a little misleading to the consumer.

I keep bringing this up but I am not trying to be intrusive to anyone's posts, I am just trying to make everyone aware that if anything states as having a Geforce Go or ATI Hyper Memory graphics card, they are just another word for onboard graphics on steroids.

On the other hand the Zoostorm laptop seems like a really good buy as that really is a dedicated full on graphics card with a very good processor and for a laptop in this price range, that is very good.

But for those who need a laptop without heavy graphics this Dell is an awesome price, just look at the specs. 2gb ram, Core 2 Duo, Widescreen, 120gb hard drive and built in DVD writer for less than £700. Can;t be bad, it all depends if you need the extra ram or the faster graphics to help make your decision.

I'd plunk cash for this, but the recent ]security scare on Acer laptops have soured me on their hardware... Think I'd pay a little extra for the Dell, take the slight hit on the specs and have some peace of mind

As for this Dell deal; I shake my fist at your temptings in the post-xmas no-money period ;-)
