Yes it doesn't pop like a nice IPS panel, but it's adequate.

Seems like an OK spec for the price 1050 is generally fine for 1080p gaming but a single 256GB SSD would only hold around 3 or 4 AAA titles before running out of space (let alone any other software outside of the OS) and while 8gb of RAM is fine in most cases I wouldn't say it will be standard in a couple of years.

For anyone looking for a midrange gaming laptop and doesn't mind keeping their installs on the light side then this is decent.
Great price. Especially worth it as it's from Spiderman Homecoming!

Yes, this has the 'horrible' TN display which everyone complains about.

I can't confirm, but I'd suspect that the SSD on this is a M.2 which leaves a spare SATA drive so you can easily upgrade the capacity. These are incredible easy to open up and upgrade parts - only 1 screw! I'd hope it's only 1x8GB stick of RAM also (rather than 2x4GB) so you can upgrade the RAM easily. While you're at it, I'd look at upgrading the Wifi/Bluetooth chip to something more modern also.

From the questions and answers it has an empty hdd bay along side that ssd.

A 1050 will be a decent card for an alround student laptop, hd gaming. But me personally, I'd stretch my budget up to around £900 and get a higher end card and be more future proof.
Remember screen can be replaced for about £60 plenty of guides online and only need to be able to use a screwdriver to do it!
Comparing to the John Lewis HP Omen 15, the spec differences are:

+ 256gb HDD
- 1TB HDD
+ 4gb VRAM (instead of 2GB)

Not sure how the battery life compare between the Dell Inspiron and the Omen 15. So that would be worth checking too.

All the other specs seem the same as the omen 15, assuming that you will will be paying here another £50 for replacing the TN panel with an IPS panel. So factoring that in means + £150 cost since the John Lewis deal was only £600. Despite that its still the best budget latpop, for the moment.
Would it be better to pay the £50 more and get the tb hardrive with this: hotukdeals.com/dea…618

Or stick to this Dell Inspirion and then buy an extra hardrive? which is more worth it?
A perfectly spec'ed laptop for running all modern games at 1080p >30fps or 60fps if you dial down the detail.

IE a laptop for actually playing and enjoying games.
great laptop.

Yeah I guess so, I have actually been on the back end of a bad experience with them, but I wouldn't actively avoid purchasing from them, especially if they were offering a 10% saving on a high price item.
If you buy this first thing is check with Dell if you are getting the full 12 months warranty. Then open the back take the screws out one at a time and put proper threadlock solution on all the screws (If they are still in it) and tighten properly. Really shoddy quality control on these.

Yeah I Agree, a good deal is a good deal. you will have people getting bad experiences with every retailer but if more often than not they deliver then great!
Everything good other than the display... Reviews say it all.

Would love to get this for my lad as he is off to Uni but can't without a 3 year warranty and Amazon don't see to sell them unless I am missing something?
Good price but the screen gets absolutely slated....

I laugh when i see "Gaming Laptop" and "GTX 1050" in the same sentence.

May as well get a Wii U for better framerates.

Agree with you but I also found this laptop is thick like a brick hence I chose hp omen at that time

Wow I had no idea replacement screens could be so cheap. Are there any laptops that you can upgrade to a UHD display on the cheap? UHD/4K laptops seem to be expensive; I don't want it for gaming so it doesn't need to be fancy.
