looking for a laptop around this price - is it a good deal folks ?

as OP says
"Seems like a really good deal considering the combination of brand, memory, bluetooth, 1GB dedicated graphics etc. Processor could be better? "

graphics are alot better than usual at this price level but then cpu is weaker than many.
if want to do any gaming (hard to say exact level) then this would be one to think about maybe but if not then you may be able to do better.
im voting hot though.

Wouldn't it make more sense to buy to meet your requirements rather than to hit a price point??

Not really going to get a better spec for this price tbh. Would be cracking if this was an i3 processor but the 1GB graphics makes up for the AMD processor.

Does not say that anywhere - they have a legal obligation to say if it is a refurb.

EDIT:
saveonlaptops.co.uk/Gen…FAQ
Unless otherwise indicated, the products we sell are all brand new, and are shipped out in factory sealed boxes. All brand new products come with a minimum 12 month manufacturer’s warranty. We do also sell some ‘open box’ products which are usually customer returned products where the security seal on the box has been opened, but the laptop has been unused. If you would like to purchase an open box product you have seen on the website, please contact our sales team on 0121 20 200 50 for more information regarding the exact nature of the open box

Go to the about link and then see the heading for "Grading Explained" they have a page stating what each grade means, but do not list the grade on the sales page of each laptop, very misleading...

It isn't misleading as this deal is for a brand new product and not graded.

Click on clearance for the graded/open box products and it tells you what grade they are:

You’ve misunderstood as most of their systems are brand new and the grading relates to their clearance products which are customer returns.

Everything is good except CPU. That's the price.

To be honest for the money its a good deal, cracking little video card in it which makes up for the average cpu plus its a Dell and they dont stuff their initial installation full of crapware

the best deal, thank you

Hi there this has a poor video card as in onboard so if your gaming the Dell is much better cause that little 550v is basically an underclocked 5650m which is a nice little gaming card for the money. But if your just browsing any will do a fine job Hope this helps.

This one. It's an amazing deal. The processor isn't quite as good but it will do everything you need it to do, and the graphics are really good.

Hey guys! What's the return policy like with saveonlaptops?
What if I find it doesn't meet my requirements after opening and testing it? How easy is it to return?

This one +1, Processor not as good, however you have 1GB dedicated graphics + 2GB more RAM memory

Probably not much in it depending what you will be doing with it. The Asus has a better processor and slightly bigger hard drive but this has a dedicated 1Gb graphics card and double the memory and is 20 quid cheaper, I'd say this is the better deal.

I just found out , its only this laptop

I'm voting hot... Yes, the CPU is a little slow, but I've used slower AMD cpus in laptops for 3D CAD without any frustration. The 4 GB of RAM is what will stop this laptop from grinding to a stop, and the dedicated graphics ( not for hardcore gamers but far from being basic) will take a load off the CPU for things like Adobe Flash (meaning: fancy, flashy websites and Youtube will put less stress on the CPU because they use the graphics card).

Some people might find the monitor a bit constrained for things like word-processing- it's a widescreen and doesn't boast the greatest number of vertical pixels- so it is better suited to watching movies. However, this is a personal preference, and most consumer laptops (except macs) seem to widescreen these days.
The DELL TrueLife display is good - It's glossy so movies and photos look good and blacks look black, without too many distracting reflections. It's good to use most situations save for having the bright morning sun directly behind you.

HDMI - yep! Most laptops have it these days, but you can still see older laptops at this price which lack it.

Bottom line: Hard to beat at this price, so voting hot.

Will this play crisis all maxed out?

Gone up to £349 now

For anyone wondering, the GPU is basically an underclocked Mobility Radeon HD 4650.

Pretty good deal.

loooks good apart from battery life, thus for that same price I could suggest either this saveonlaptops.co.uk/Len…tml

or this saveonlaptops.co.uk/ASU…tml

thats if you're looking for mobile laptops, but slightly better than notebooks..

If that's true then most people are idiots.

If that's true then most people are idiots.

You
"I need a new laptop with the best specs I can find." "That'll be £800, please sir"

The idiots
"I need a new laptop, how much can I afford to spend? £300, OK, let's see what's the best I can get for that"

pot_belly

If that's true then most people are idiots.

HAHA! this website is full of idiots then?.....or is it just one?

You set a budget (most people have homes, cars and bills so don't have a bottomless pit) and then find the best spec for that budget. Same with cars, houses, TV's, phones etc.....You don't think 'I need a 5 bed house, now lets see how much this is going to cost me', you think 'I could do with a 5 bed house but only have £250k to spend, i wonder if i can get one within my budget'...

The average Joe doesn't really know what spec would fit their requirements hence why people ask for advice on forums like this one.

Though I agree in principle surely you should say I can get x (better) for y% more. Is it worth waiting till I've got that extra money (probably quite applicable on something at this pricepoint). Instant gratification isn't all it's made out to be - regrets easily follow.

I understand what you mean but you could do that forever with Laptops. I think for this price you aren't going to get anything better unless you wait at least a couple of months....but then again who knows.....Then in 2 months there could be something that little bit better that is 15% more....and on.....

Hi all, can anyone help....

If the battery is weak on this can it be upgraded? How much are we looking at for a bigger better battery? And would it be an aftermarket make?

Battery should be ok.....depends how long you need to run on battery? I would have thought that this is a 6 cell battery with this run time to be honest.
