Seems like a good deal for the spec. I was looking for a £200 netbook for my daughter's birthday and wanted Windows 7, the later generation of processors (N450 not a 270/280) and as much battery power as possible.

This seemed to fit the bill well. £229 on the Dell site and that's only with a 3 cell battery.

Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz
1GB RAM
160GB SATA
10.1" WSVGA TrueLife
No Optical Drive
Webcam
Windows 7 Starter

UPDATE: 14/06/10
Sometime during yesterday, eBuyer seem to have changed the description to include 'Boxed Open' and reduced the price by about a quid. I'm not sure whether this means there are 2 batches of netbooks (one new, one 'boxed open') but they've just stuck them under the same product code or whether they are all 'boxed open'.

Seems a very good deal, heat and rep.

Good find OP and heat from me - this looks not to bad, especially with the inclusion of the six cell battery!

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Why not ring Dell up and get them to supply a 6 cell and ask them to beat that price?

Looks good to me.

This is how I thought the netbook market's prices would be when i first saw the 701. It is the buyers market at the moment.

As I was getting asked about this (via a personal message) I've found the following YouTube video, which covers how to upgrade the memory and the hard disk present within this netbook.

YouTube - How to Upgrade and Dismantle Dell Mini 1012

A good resource blog and forum to visit (for support from fellow owners) would also be the MyDellMini.com website.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

nice find , wonder if dell will beat it themselves ???

My acer aspire one plays Iplayer perfect (hooked up to external monitor or whatever). It's an atom 270 with only 512mb RAM

Forget about HD though.

This netbook only has vga output btw

carphone warehouse msi wind u135 at £199 is also a great machine. Similar spec but not as good battery life.

That would be a very important requirement for me, so I'll pass on the Dell.

Seems a benchmark

An Atom based ION motherboard will do 1080p no problem at all under Linux with 1Gb. Don't know if there are any Atom based Netbooks but the Acer Revo from ebuyer for £179 will do what you want easily and is a million times better at it than a PS3.

Oh and good price, picked one of these up not that long ago for the Old Man and he loves it, battery life is good and I paid a considerable amount more.

You don't need a fan is the passive cooling is good enough. Can't say as I've noticed it getting particularly hot to be honest.

I thought the n450 ran really cool and doesn't need a fan?

Passive cooling may be enough under most circumstance but nothing compares with rock solid fan cooling...particularly very necessary, if planning on travelling to tropical country for the holidays like myself

I think I read somewhere that you can put the MacOS on one these.
If thats the case I'll deinitely have one.

Its not only the processor but the graphics chip, motherboard,Hard disk all benefits from additional cooling..failure rate may be high if there is no adequate cooling

The mrs is after a newer, smaller netbook compared to the laptop she has now.
Im not that familiar with netbooks so was wondering if this can browse multiple firefox tabs, cycle through pics pretty quick and have mp3's playing in the back ground? As thats all it will normally be used for.
Thanks
Gaz

Indeed pro and ultimate, and the N450 doesn't support VT anyway so not an option.

As for people with worries about heat issues it was not the previous generation atom that was the need to have non-passive cooling but the graphics chipset used. Now the cpu has a much improved (power wise) onboard gpu it is much easier to use passive cooling to keep the chip within its limits.

I for one welcome passive cooling. Also who sits with the netbook over there groin area!:?
