First deal, so go easy on me!

Cannot find this laptop cheaper anywhere else. Great processor, good amount of RAM and hard drive (even if only at 5400 rpm) and it comes with a Blu Ray player. The graphic card is an integrated one Intel HD Graphics 3000 so not great for hardcore gaming.

I have been thinking hard whether to buy this or not...do you guys think this is a good laptop?

and free £50 vouchers too? making it £450?

That would be too good. The voucher is only for use afterwards in February 2012 when spending over £200.

Getting a £50 voucher to use on a future purchase doesn't really make this laptop £50 cheaper does it? You still have to pay £500. It's an incentive, not a discount.

Original Poster

Any views on the laptop? Can't decide what to do...was thinking of spending more around £350-400 (which would get me an i5 at most)...but it seems to be too good to miss!

No discrete graphics card. Good for the price.

Not bad at all

all the second gen sandy bridge processors have a gpu combined into the processor hence it does not need one unless for the game savvy customers.

Very nice.

I was considering posting this as a deal too. Have some heat OP.

I bought this one 1 week ago and it is the worst laptop I have ever used. I wouldn't recommend this laptop.

Why ffstream? What's wrong with it? What laptops have you used before?

That's the kind of information I wanted to get. Thanks!

.... .... 'pants on fire!

i have the xps with the 720p panel. and the viewing angles are poor. i think its the same 720p panel in this inspiron.
looking at the specs i would say this is a bargain. hot from me.
even the port layout looks the same as my xps15. i would say go for it

Well I have just bought it for my daughter, so I hope ffstream is wrong. Is there really any reason why this wouldn't be a great replacement laptop for a 15 year old to cover Standard and A level exams?

Not happy with this lappy...randomly shutsdown, poor battery life, very flimsy keyboard

This is overkill for what you need it for. Why not just get a £300 laptop and spend the £200 on something else?

Great laptop at a great price HOT

Cold deal. Much better can be had for this kind of money.

can u tell me where and supply links please and I will cancel order. Cheers

@bhoywonder88 watch how hot this gets. buying this your future proofing. i7 is a great cpu.
@accy your a troll

I've been contemplating buying this laptop. Overall the specifications are very good for the price. Brilliant for people who like to open multi programs in one go. Game wise, this is'nt really a game machine. To be honest, if you want a game machine would you really buy a laptop?

I would sell my sausage to get this if it had a 1080p screen.

The specs of this laptop look good but the performance is disappointing.

Your all crazy. IT'S £399.99 IN CURRYS

I disagree (unless of course you can tell us all where to get a better machine for the same price).

Looks like a great deal to me! Nice one OP!

There's a couple of trolls here so don't feed them. My view is it is a good price but I don't see why you need the i7 and 6gb if RAM without a disgrete card. Unless you doing heavy editing or cad work for the average user it's overkill. People saying future proofing are future proofing for what unless ie25 or firefox 50 uses masses of ram and CPU or Facebook has changed beyond belief your not future proofing against anything.A cpu like q6600 can still tear through most things and is only a bottleneck when you have a fat discrete in there Is it 4-5 years Old. It's a strange decision for dell to go with this set up IMO.

I concur, what is it with people posting 'worst laptop ever', but not giving a valid reason. Or 'cold, can be had cheaper'. without posting valid links. Where's Troll Hunter when you need him?

Anyway, keep the info coming folks, as I need a new laptop and am weighing up options. Quite literally - this one is chugging along on its last legs. It's a Dell and I'd be happy to go the same, as this one's lasted 7 years so far.

As I'm not very tech minded, would someone please explain what an I7 would allow me to do - for instance, how much gaming would be possible on the laptop?

Cold ! Intel HD3000 is very slow. Other bad thing is 15.6" for this price.

Then what would you say is the best deal laptop, spec wise at the moment?

Not baiting, genuine curiosity as I have no idea!

If you paid me to use a DELL laptop I MIGHT consider it.

If this is your sort of budget, then have a look at this one.

Much more solidly built than the Dells. OK, maybe not quite the same specs but still worth a look!

Constructive and informative comment well done clap clap

I realise that the need for discrete GPU's on laptops is now not the same as it was what with the graphics being taken care of by the processor...but what kind of performance would it provide? Can someone say what it is comparable to please?

EG. I have a desktop with a GTX460 (768mb) and an X4 Phenom 965, how would this laptop compare in it's ability to play games?

Nowhere near not even close. If anyone considering buying this to game more than angry birds sorry to shout but DO NOT BUY

With an SSD this would make a pretty nice machine, good deal. Shame about the 1366 x 768 display res though.
