Those who do not have money, those who have kids and need something cheap for their school work, elderly who can order their shopping on line and read newspapers, and so on. Not everything has to be i7, 8gb ram, SSD, IPS, we need these for people who do not have money too. This is the only item posted within the past hour reaching over 100 hot, obviously there are lots who believe this is a good deal.
Those who also know what to do with it, spend £50 to upgrade it and sell it for a profit or use it as a perfectly capable laptop.

Excellent value for the money and again, against what others will say, an i3 4GB RAM can cope with Windows OK, the only thing I would change is the HDD with an SSD. Perfect for school work, web browsing, youtube, Microsoft package and other basic tasks.
Voted hot, it seems even at £100 people want IPS and high specs...

Would this be good for 9yr old to do their homework online? Or too slow?

Absolutely! I still use my i3 4gb ram and it's still fast enough for me, never mind for school work. More than reasonable for this price. Good brand too.

With an upgrade to 8gb of ram it would be okay for web browsing and basic stuff.
What else is better for the same money?

I have a 6 yr old Toshiba laptop with similar specs, but a better HD screen. Works fine for typical home use. Battery barely lasts 90-100 mins now but it is not carried around anyway.

Absolutely agree, these specs are still ok for basic stuff and at £100 this is great.

Good little machines not bad for the cash - would certainly look to replace the HDD with an SSD and possibly double the RAM. We've donated loads of the slightly higher spec 7440's and 7450's (with SSD's) to local charities and they use them for normal day to day business type stuff - word processing, spreadsheets, internet etc.

Welcome to hukd
The site where people cant wait to say
"its rubbish"
"its not a 4k screen or 1tb ssd on an i9"
But strangely enough never post a better deal
This is more than good enough for the vast majority of the population who are not going to watch 4k (who does on a laptop) or run 10 programmes at once
And with an ssd and a bit more memory itll be even better
That's precisely why I asked.

Perfect for web browsing.... not for games...

If you have good internet GeForce now for gaming
i have one, great wee machine with decent screen
A basic spec but it is still an e series latitude so enjoys all the benefits of full enterprise / business laptop. easy to upgrade, replace battery etc. You could get ebay a dock to for another £20 odd

I have 2 of these since new and left over from my company use. Upgraded them to ssd and 8gb ram. They fly! I use one of them as a music production laptop with heavy cubase application with tons of vst's. Handles it with ease. Very capable corporate laptop.
Great deal mate , heat from me
£18 SSD and you've got a perfectly usable laptop. Nothing new under £200 is likely to perform better

Have you consider a Chromebook?
Some will last 8 - 10 hrs & plus you don't have to worry too much about computer viruses ...
I bought a refurbished Acer R11 (with toouch screen) from laptopdirect for £99.
My son uses it for his A-Level courses.

I recommend getting a Chromebook with minimum of 4GB RAM ...
I still use a Core 2 Duo polycarbonate MacBook 2010 on a daily basis... this should be fine.

Absolutely agree. While I understand people want more for their money, I think they should set their expectations in line with the price. Those not knowing much about technology will be put off due to this kind of comments, will save money and spend more on specs they never need. People do not want to understand that the vast majority uses laptop for basic stuff. Spending £500 on a laptop for your 7-8 old kid to do school work sounds crazy to me. Just had a comment on my post, Acer Iconia One tablet, somebody suggesting twice it's a rubbish device, but not mentioning once why. The tablet is £125 on Amazon and my post is for under £50...
