Dell have another offer on their Mini 9 netbooks. This time it is the mid-range model (the N03M0902) available through their 'Super Springtime Deals' for 48 hours. The standard 1GB RAM netbook comes to £209. You can combine this with the attached voucher to get an even better price (£188)!

What makes this deal even better is that the 'configuration' page seems to allow you to add 2GB of RAM for no extra cost!

Now, a very similar spec netbook was on offer for £179 2 weeks ago but this laptop's spec is slightly different (no bluetooth but extra 1GB RAM). If you missed out last time, this is still a very good deal (a nice amount off the standard price of nearer £279). You also get a full choice of colours (including white or sticker black at no cost).

So, the spec for £188 (including VAT and delivery) is:
Intel ® Atom Processor N270 (1.60GHz, 533MHz, 512K cache)
Linux Ubuntu 8.04
2GB 533MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
Integrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator 950
8GB Solid State Hard Drive
Dell 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Mini-Card
Integrated 0.3MP Camera
1Yr Limited Warranty - Collect & Return
4-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (32 WHr)
8.9" WSVGA (WLED) Truelife Display
UK/Ireland 30W AC Adapter

Probably worth adding Bluetooth to this for £9 (total price £197 ... not bad compared to £179 for the same machine with only 1GB of RAM)

This link to a thread by Brains has lots of useful info on the Mini 9:

super hot!

if your prepared to wait a month then good offer !
my status is stil sitting at being prepared and i bought it on the 5th march

They had some part supply issues, that affected a number of units sold on the 5th March.

I too ordered one on the 5th, it should be delivered today.

its a bit rich of Dell to offer a new deal when they haven't delivered all the orders from the last deal - I'm also in the production stage. from 4th March!!

Hi all,
I'm thinking of getting one of these as I thought about it too long last time and missed out!
Is it worth getting the 16GB ssd for the extra £30?
Cheers

The 10% discount offer seems to work with all Inspiron Mini 9 ecodes !

As mentioned ]here

Also, black or white?!! Arrrrrgh!! Too many decisions! I've heard the black is quite prone to fingerprints etc?

good price -

Also available with 1 gig ram at the Dell Outlet store for £181.46 with Windows XP instead of Ubuntu

You'd probably be better off buying an SD card as they're cheaper then getting it from Dell

Hot! I got one of the £179 ones and am really impressed with it.

Cool, cheers

Although I'd probably use an SD card either way for music etc! Not that I'm greedy!

I bought one with 8gb and wish I upgraded at the time. I did however invest in this 16gb class 4 SD HC card from play.com:

play.com/Ele…nre

I'd recommend doing both...

P.S. Although don't be an idiot like me and think the SD card isn't working because you haven't pressed hard and clicked it in place...

P.P.S. Also a nice case for it here, I recommend it: hotukdeals.com/ite…-pl

I think the deal sounds great but i am not sure if i should go for it or not as it has linux OS ... It would be for my early teen niece and I think windows would be good for her ... is there a major difference ? Please suggest ..

You can do pretty much anything with this not requiring too much power.

Find out what software she uses in windows and make sure there isnt anything specific she needs.
Dell's Ubuntu install is ideal for simplicity, and comes with photo software, music software, Open Office word processor etc that can save docs to be read in MS Word etc. It uses Firefox web browser that many people prefer anyway.

The Dell doesnt have a Hard drive, many people consider this a bonus, and the way forward. Solid state is small because its expensive at the moment.

Hi

I wondr if anyone could answer a technical question or two on these? I am not familiar with Ubuntu as an operating system but I am sure could figure it out. My question is can you install things like Star Office and Mozilla Thunderbird on this O/S? My wife would use this to surf the net, receive emails and do occasional stuff on a worksheet. Also people mention SD cards in connection with these which sounds like you can simply plug one into a slot on this notebook to boost your disk space a little. Is this correct.

For those who have these how do you find using them in practice, for an occasional use machine?

I too ordered one on the previous offer on the 5th for a Birthday present (which was on the 16th) and it still hasnt arrived, in fact it says still in production and its estimated date is the 24th (although this has changed 3 times already!)

Good deal but Boooooo Dell.

Hi, quick question, could I install Windows XP on this?

Cheers

The Toshiba is significantly smaller than the other netbooks (though not massively lighter) - advantage if small size is the main consideration but I guess small screen and keyboard sizes are a disadvantage.

My local PCW (Solihull) has these, also at £50 off so pretty much the same price as ebuyer but it may be because they have a Toshiba concession in store (only PCW to have this I understand).

I was interested in one to manage my digital pics when I'm out and about (hence wanted a decent size hard drive). Toshiba rep reckoned it wouldn't do much more than store them for me - not powerful enough for any manipulation. Wonder if that's really so? Did claim 3.25hrs battery life, which is more than most netbooks.

Yes you can, very easily. An SD card in the slot will show up as another drive but you can use it for storage or to install programs to. Sound like it would be ideal for your wife. My partner has had hers since launch and loves it, using it for the same uses you mention. It's very solid, silent as no fan or mechanical hard drive, and of course very portable.

I would say yes, and certainly if you plan on putting Windows 7 on it or even OSX.

Of course by changing the spec you then have a long wait for your machine in line with everyone else. Where as I ordered mine Wednesday and it arrived Friday 2 days later! First thing I did was wipe Ubuntu and get XP on it. Going to nLite XP soon.

Managed to pick up one of these in the last £179 deal and it was delivered in just a few days. I'm now running OS X on it and it's great!

can I boot the system from the sd card drive ?

can I boot the system from the sd card drive ?

Sadly not but you can pop it in a USB reader and boot from there.

There is about £7 of quidco money here too.

4% for sale amount excluding VAT on Dell Home products

Would this be a better choice than the recent LG deal?

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/360622/lg-netbook-atom-1-6ghz-1gb-ram-160g/showthread.php?t=360622&page=3

If you are adding extra storage capacity - going from 32gig to 64gig only adds under £9.

Also - you are not paying for a version of windows you would have to uninstall.

In the Asus EEE Linux distro the new SD card was seamlessly added to the total capacity of the drive storage - at the very worst the card will appear as a separate drive right beside main SSD storage.
Thunderbird is not the default email client that is installed , but ]can be added as an application

Thgis page specifically mentions ]staroffice
I believe that Open office and Star Office are closely related
And Firefox is the default Browser too

Great Deal!

for anyone who has ordered, what sort of delivery dates are you getting quoted?
