First laptop post.
Been looking at a gaming laptop for some time. Seems pretty reasonable for the new 1660ti and 9th Gen i5 CPU?

You can get an i7-9750h but with 1650 gpu for the same price if cpu is more important to you: dell.com/en-…921

Or pay £85 more for the i7-9750h plus 1660ti: dell.com/en-…904

Looks decent to me!
Still only comes with 1yr warranty and 1x1 WiFi WLAN. What's the excuse behind that? Should come with 2x2 as standard!
Hmm. Now swithering to return a 1070 laptop I just bought. It appears the 1660ti is on par with the 8Gb 1070. Pity this didn't have 16Gb RAM though.

Out of curiosity, Would you go for this Dell over the i7-7700HQ,1070 Asus GL502VS I ordered the other day? Considering cancelling for this.
Is this just a 60hz display?
I'm not planning to buy a new gaming laptop quite yet but if I was, this is what I might go for.

Yes it's an i5 but the i5-9300H beats out the i7-7700HQ which was considered a 'top' laptop CPU not that long ago. Also whilst it's 'only' 8GB of RAM, it's 2x4GB set up as dual channel & I've never been convinced that doubling up to 16GB brings that much benefit for 1080p gaming.

The price is getting there too.

In the context of total price, does 2x2 really make that much diff in 99% of users online experience?

The CPU and GPU are both slightly better on this laptop, but you'll also need to buy 2 8GB RAM modules to match the 16GB RAM of the laptop you ordered.

This is true. Good point. Guess I'll see how I get on with the Asus. Thanks.
Jarrod's Tech in YouTube is currently my go-to-guy for gaming laptop performance comparisons.

In one video he says he wants to test the 1660 ti in conjunction with an i5-9300H to see if there's any difference between it & the i7-9750H. I suspect there won't be much between the two CPUs.

apparently this version has the 144hz display if i read it correctly in the questions section of the reviews. correct me if i am wrong

Probably not. Just the extra two cores really. Is the 1660Ti the MaxQ design? Dell appears to mostly use that for their gaming laptops.

I think it ships with a 60Hz screen unless it specifies it in the spec list when purchasing.

yeah i thought that but then it says 15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 300 nits IPS Anti- Glare LED Backlit ships with a 144hz. I want a laptop with this refresh rate so need to double check this.

I think it also says the order code of the one that ships with the 144hz screen. The order code doesn't match this one I don't think and I can't seem to select it in the configure tools.

Neither could I so I didn't want to risk saying it would be the 144Hz screen. I'm pretty sure it isn't though.
I would consider getting this laptop if it wasn't for the screen. 60 Hz with a GPU like this is a crime... Actually, scratch that, 60 Hz is always a crime. Even moving the mouse cursor is more pleasurable at 120 Hz.
I’ve been thinking about getting back into pc gaming for such a long time. I’d have to have a laptop, a desktop simply wouldn’t fit in with my life style.

How would this cope with games like Total War and other new ones?

Yeah I think I will hang fire with the Asus I've ordered. Not sure if the extra 2Gb on the 1070 will be beneficial or not. Only thing putting me off on this too is no proper thermal tests done that I could find.
I've been looking at a few laptops. Can anyone recommend one for around 500 pounds. Mainly looking for a good screen and one that will be able to play future games at medium settings. I plan on mainly playing fortnite and smite hence why I don't want to spend too much especially considering I have a ps4 pro

The order number given in the questions section seems to be a US one. Clearly states 144hz in the specs on that model.

The 1660ti has 2GB less vram.

It is more power-efficient than the 1070 8GB, but give the choice no way I would sacrifice the extra 2GB vram for that.
