4790K is a golden chip, literally no need to upgrade to anything else right now, and only slightly worse than the 7700K.

Obviously 8700K has its place, but still for gaming the 4790K is brilliant.

What’s a Micro crap window?

Do you mean Microsoft Windows - but are trying to say it in a derogatory way in the style of a 6 year old?

Windows 10 is fantastic and, as you helpfully point out... there is no decent alternative!

Ordered for the office and will stick an SSD in it. Thanks!
Heat added! I'm not sure if the GFX card can be easily upgraded on these? Does anybody know?

Would love to play things like Pubg & GTA etc. on here
Go careful thinking you can add a graphics card to this as its a small form factor chassis so too small

Psu in these are crap

Depends what for, if you want to put in a power hungry graphics card then they are no good, as a general purpose machine they are fine, They are not really intended to be upgraded much , they are intended to be used in offices where size, system stability consistency of hardware and lack of noise are the key factors . Many of these will never get any upgrade and at most maybe a memory upgrade in a few years.
The 1030 will allow you to play GTA at about 30fps and is small form factor and only draws 30watts. The card is around £60

Could that be used with this PC for a decent VR experience?
A beast of a cpu (9998 on cpu benchmark). However I think a little overpriced considering no SSD £200-250 would put it in bargain territory.

Ive got the desktop chassis version of one of its predecessors at work with a lower cpu and 2 SSD's. Trying to put a separate gpu in it was nightmare due to the slot spacings it also has a very small PSU. The sff version of this will be worse in every respect.

However if you just need small, quiet and a fast cpu, upgrade to an SSD and it should fly.

If you want something cheaper theres still one of these in stock, which I thought about

i believe it takes low profile vga's like the Palit 1060 3gb
yeh @synasla I know its a SFF machine so very limited on upgrades. I'd read somewhere about it only handling upto a 25w gfx card for power, but then other places are saying can run higher. Be interesting to hear if anyone owns one and has upgraded

Yeah, you'll soon stop complaining about windows.
spec sheet says

Standard 255W PSU Active PFC or optional 255W up to 90% Efficient PSU (80 PLUS Gold); Active PFC

I got into PC gaming this way - got a refurb i5 3575 from gumtree and stuck a 750ti in and play most games 1080p

This pc with a 1050ti would be awesome and should run fine

Should be able to get cheaper off ebay. Not much difference between i5 2500 and modern i7s for gaming as most games are GPU bound not CPU

That's a good price for the i5 3470 desktop for £125 - just add an SSD and maybe another 4GB ram and it'll be fine for many things. I have that CPU and it's my main desktop and does video editing easily and probably some light gaming if I could be bothered.
if you missed it this isn't bad

i5 2500
8gb ram
500w psu so can take an RX580 or GTX1060
or if you like small form factor

No, the 1030 isn't good enough for VR but this processor would be fine. The problem is the power supply and case.
Min spec for the cheaper Windows Mixed Reality is GTX 960/1050 (or greater) AMD RX 460/560 (or greater).

I'd budget at least £600 on a decent second hand desktop with a 10 series graphics card such as the 1060 6GB as the 10-series is better for processing VR.
No HDMI/DVI right if I'm reading correctly, is that a big deal?
It’s a 4790 not K
So it’s locked
But it’s still a good chip.
