This price is for the "Scratch and Dent" version. The "Certified Refurbished" version is £660.20.

So no touchscreen or blu ray drive? Strange with such high specs

To be fair, it's a thin bezel laptop which would explain why there is no optical media drive and as for touchscreens, who really uses them on laptops anyway?

Having read comments on previous deals, the 'scratch and dent' units are usually immaculate. Is there any different on warranty? There's also a huge 1% quidco cashback! I also believe they offer 10% student discounts?

Reviews say the laptop is rather solid with its design, edge to edge display and back-lit keypad being key features.

However, reviews also highlight it's flaws such as the below average battery life (some getting only 2-3 hours with a slow recharge time); washed out colours on the display with a large amount of glare and a strangely positioned webcam which isn't practical in real life usage.

Still some very good specs though so nice find OP

Personally I'm pondering the Dell at £606 against the HP on another deal at £450: ebuyer.com/805…abu

Probably will go for the HP as it's brand new and £150 cheaper, and I don't need more than that spec really. Just wish it wasn't such an ugly bit of kit!

I think you need to contact them on chat.....and I think it's 15% off for students

Correct. Chat has a reference number which you then email them with proof of your student ID - it can be NUS or UNIDAYS, unlike the normal Dell site which only takes unidays.

Dell emailed my code the other day within 5 hours for 15% off, time limited. You'll need to contact again if your code expires.

No, but these have M2 capability, as well as SSD/HDD space. You could put an M2 drive in there quite happily, assuming this 256GB drive is a regular SSD and not M2.

It wasn't clear on the page if the disk is M2 or not, but assume not in the first instance...

I haven't used an optical drive for a long time, I'd prefer the lighter weight. And it's a laptop, so doesn't need a touchscreen , I'd prefer higher specs to a touchscreen

Whats the price of this item new, currys and amazon shows the 8gb Ram version only, not the 16gb one.

Its just a dual core 15W CPU with a basic graphics card so not a big deal.

yes couldnt find it there either

See how much they go for on eBay then as that's more real world pricing than RRPs.

Added. Currently £670 on eBay from a very good seller so this price direct from Dell is unremarkable.

I've just asked and they said the following:

"If you are a student you will have to use your student email address to write an email to DellUKI_Outlet_support@dell.com
mentioning the chat session ID. Also attach the copy of your student ID card/NUS card in the email.
Your email address must match the name on your Student ID. Once the verification is done you will receive the
15% student discount code on your email."

The i7 'U' processor is pretty slow. For this money I want i7 'HQ'.

Could this comfortably run AutoCAD?

If you have a NUS card (lots of post on HUKD how to get one) you can get the !5% - dont need your email on card or a uni email address

Expired? Only certified left as far as I can see. Shame, was tempted

I have an Asus Strix laptop with a £2k rrp and it has neither, but it's incredibly thin even with a 1070.

tbh id wait for a lower spec version, this isn't a powerhouse so why pay for an i7 or 16gb ram?

Dosent have an apple badge and emoji bar and dosent cost £2000 so cold deal

forget the cashback when buying from Dell, contact their customer support and ask for money off the item if you buy now. Each time I have asked they have done it and ended up getting 200 quid off my alienware 13 (bash me all you want but I personally like it)

Why would they do that for you?? Whats the reason??

The cases on Dell laptops are terrible. Ours cracked at the top right hand side after less than 2 years use of just opening and closing the lid. Now the screen is effected and flickers on and off. We had other problems too and customer service was shocking. Would never buy a Dell laptop again.

Neither would I. Was only loose screws on our 7559 but one internal one was missing totally. They accused me of dropping it and wouldn't budge even with threat of legal action. Also refused to honour more than 9 months warranty. Had absolute hell getting them to adhere to my basic rights in law.
Would check all your screws are tight and reseat display cable on motherboard if you have the 7559. They're common Dell faults and there's videos on YouTube about them.

They want to make a sale, if you find hard to believe just try it. No one will force you to complete the transaction. They also will send you a quote by email which i think lasts 24 hours if i remember rightly but you can just ask again. Get different prices from different staff. I learned this from this site so thought no harm to try it and has worked few times...

I got this with the radeon graphics card in March this yr for £437 "scratch and dent" (I don't think there was any), excellent machine for the money.
