I run 3 of these. Brilliant screens!
Why is portrait? I doubt anyone would actually use it in that direction...

Makes reading emails and documents easier.
It comes with a decent stand design so it can beused in landscape and portrait.
Is this basically the 1440p version of the U2417H?

People who do portait oriented publication, documents and office paperwork, plus those who read from top to bottom. Just a couple of uses. I did use a 1080p in this portrait mode, which is now portrait, but I may re-consider a QHD in portrait mode again, because in portrait mode, I can look out of my window better to the outside at lower eye level.

That was a joke.

I hope that you realise that people stand-up most of the time. Theatres, amphitheatres, music hall seatings are often arranged vertically. In case you didn't know, media players play vertical videos.

Many subject matters are good in vertical videos, videos of the contents of greenhouses at Kew Gardens, citiscape, views inside a forest/jungle, waterfall....

I’m not sure what you’re saying is a joke? The puppet video? It’s comedic, yes, but it’s a rant about people that film vertically and the frustration is genuine. It’s not a sarcastic video.

I have seen monitors arranged this way, and I am aware of the uses and benefits or videoing and displaying vertically.

ps DO people stand up most of the time? It probably depends on your job, but most people sleep horizontally, then travel to work sat down (car, public transport) with some walking in between, then many people will be sat down in their job.

I said the video is a joke. I didn't say it is sarcastic, comedic, these are your own personal views internal to yourself.

I said people stand up most of the time, I video them in portrait mode sometimes; you say people sleep horizontally, you continue to video them when they sleep horizontally, as it's your job, which is what you wrote in the beginning of your sentence.

But why did you say the video is a joke? Why were you telling me?

I said it is a joke and then seriously, that people do value/use portrait videos (in consistency with my other comment that I use my screen in portrait and vertical modes).

Moreover, here is additional information, some media players allow rotation of videos, Windows Media player does this, so do VLC and Media Player, just to name a few. And loads of other technical info on the net to get frustration out of people, which may help, such as YouTube now properly displays vertical videos on iOS - The Verge (which is a serious ppint, it would be a joke to play on something telling them this couldn't be done - as in the video published in 2012.)

I am not convinced how, what you said, "the frustration is genuine" is always true giving the number of iOS users, as an example. We are in 2018, not 2012, even if true then.

Sonetimes people miss capturing things on video which, if they’d recorded horizontally, would have been captured so I was merely expressing my appreciation for the YouTube video.

I KNOW vertical videos/monitors/displays are used and some people/business prefer them. I never said otherwise. You don’t need to defend it.

I am not defending, I am just showing a possibility, if you knew it, then fine, if you didn't, you learn something new, such as the other commentor above who did not know people use screen vertically. By the way I edited my comment above, You may reduce your frustration (the one that you said is genuine). My information is not comprehensive as I have not covered legacy systems, Linux, Android...and all versions of such OS's.

I did know. Maybe you should have directed your comprehensive teachings to someone else?

The frustrations I was referring to are purely from a personal aspect. e.g. a friend or family member poorly framed a video due to orientation, which is why I found the YouTube video funny.

you did ask me why, so I gave you an answer, you ungrateful chap; next time, don't ask if you couldn't take answer

Reminder of what you asked: "But why did you say the video is a joke? Why were you telling me?"

I was asking why someone was rambling to me about portrait display use. You’d already sent more than one message to me beforeI asked.

All I said was that the video was ace and that I would use it to spread the message. I had no intention of prompting you to reply to it.

You are frustrated, you make up things so as to get social network rage:

1. You said, "You’d already sent more than one message to me before". How many messages did you ask me? Is it the same number, of course, it is! I am just responding to you after my first comment.

2. You said, "All I said was that the video was ace and that I would use it to spread the message." But you just go on and on, prompting comment after comment.

3. You do shut people (me) up after an hour of an equal two-way dialogue by saying "I had no intention prompting you to reply to it." Which is what you typed. But you just go on and on, prompting comment after comment.

4. I am out, looks like you have a self-control issue, this will be my last comment to you.
