price is ok as it has a dvi hdcp connector, wall mountable and 3 yr warranty. since it a dell monitor im guessing the panel is from samsung.

overview says its dvi monitor, tehnical specs say dvi and the images show a dvi and vga connection.

with dvi, nice voted hot.

Excellent deal :-)

Nice find...tempted

Tempted, but don`t know if a widescreen is better than standard.
Any pros and cons please would be appreciated.

I know with a TV it seemed to stretch the picture and looked odd `til you got used to it.

bear in mind that this 20" WS monitor will have a smaller screen area than a 17" standard 4:3 monitor.

While this is true, if the monitor is used a lot for watching widescreen video, then it uses more effective area than a 4:3.
I have had a widescreen Dell monitor for around 4 years, and I've considered it to be far superior for my uses to a 4:3, even if the 4:3 would have a marginally greater area.

fair enough but I use my TV for watching video etc as about 5 times the size of this one.

Had a quick search on the net for tft monitors and you`d be hard pressed to find a standard one ----------- they are nearly all widescreen!

Where can I get that jpeg image of the fish on the net?. Thanks!

True, I wouldn't part with my Dell 19" 4:3 monitor.

snap

If you are using it for general PC you are probably more interested in actual screen area in pixels.

20-inch 16:10 monitor total pixels (typical resolution: 1680x1050) = 1764000 px
17-inch 4:3 monitor total pixels (typical resolution: 1280x1024) = 1310720 px

So in terms of raw pixel count 20in 16:10 > 17in 4:3. However, since the vertical resolution is only slightly greater, you are only really gaining area width wise. So if you are upgrading from a 17in 4:3 to a 20in 16:10 you will only really feel the difference in terms of horizontal resolution. They are also about the same height in terms of physical screen area.

Hence moving from a 19in 4:3 to a 20in 16:10 would in some ways feel like a downgrade

The info at cavecreations.com/tv2…cgi has a bearing when watching fixed-ratio TV broadcasts, but for use a PC monitor (which after all is this products primary function) 20-inch widescreen > 17inch 4:3.

There's my 2pence.

Thanks for your 2p worth, so in the case of my mate, moving up from a standard 15inch TFT to this model would be a massive improvement.

Friend has just had one delivered but can`t change to 1600x900 as it`s not showing.
Needs to download a driver, searched Dell site but can`t see it for this monitor for XP only for Vista.
