Hmmm wonder if this will get hot???

Of course it will its Mike T

Mmm, Tempting...
Might be more than the CPW deal but definitely better value for my semi-hard earned money...

excellent price

good price but rrp of £1k+? somehow I don't think so lol !

Been looking for a decent deal on a laptop for the GF. But offers are always on damn 15" leviathons.

Anyone seen any decent deals on 13" and under laptops (not netbooks)?

Hot Hot Hot!!!!

Hot deal..

but how do you get it at a lesser price than 549.14?

Please clarify..

thanks

Would this be good for gaming? I've been searching for months for a laptop to play the latest Football Manager etc.

If not this, anyone got any other recommendations?

There is a voucher for 10% off all Vostro notebooks over £500 valid until 26th Oct - WH6PG20R7R5CWB

For a 12" laptop using this on the £419 Vostro 1220 an picking a P8600/6 Cell Battery/XP upgrade
gives P8600/4GB Ram/250GB HD/6 Cell battery for under £520 which is a good deal. Also similar for the 13 and 15 inch equivalent vostros.

Also the 17" vostro seems a good deal at this price.

Don't expect to be playing Crysis on High but it will easily handle footy manager... It's got a separate dedicated GPU... Tempted by this deal myself....

It didn't register when I read the OP, but you can colour change this for free if you fancy another colour.

Crysis no but will manage a lot of other 3D titles - footy manager is a bad example as thats just a spreadsheet with a frontend on and very cpu dependant !

That link gives some frames per second on games and 30 for Fear 2 on medium is no mean effort . . .

good link tony !

Only available with VIsta 64 bit . Not good.......

With Windows 7 upgrade offer don't forget

I'm very tempted, my laptop is on its last legs... I wish there was a way to find out what the battery life is like on this thing, or how hot it gets. That's the problem with custom PC builders that have 30 possible variations of each computer, you can't get proper review on it... Specs look pretty nice though

great deal t (didnt you use to work for dell) sorry couldnt resist

Now £579.54 !

what's wrong with Vista 64bit? the free upgrade should be windows 7 64 bit isnt?

not a bad price or spec, heat added, think dell need to update there shells though this is looking dated

I'm a little bit thick so could somebody explain how to get this laptop at this price please?

I understand that I can add the 5% off voucher at the end and that works taking the price to I think it was £559 (without delivery I think) but I don't understand the 3%-10% thing at all or even whether I can use them together or if i should be doing. I also have quidco I don't know if that makes a difference.

So could someone post up a quick guide as to what I need to do (in order) to get this laptop for £549 'or less' please it would be much appreciated.

Oh yeah it also said when I was going through the customisation options something about mobile broadband, you can either have it with or without a 2 month trial with vodafones 'in built' modem or something. Am I better off taking the trial or just not bothering? Its all very confusing lol

Thanks a lot and I hope someone will be able to help us idiots lol

We can quidco this for ~30 extra saving which makes it 579-30=549 methinks

Another favourable review here: reghardware.co.uk/200…15/

I'd say this is well worth it for £549.

The deal came live early this morning and it was 577 which was obviously a bit of a misprice (especially as the Days of deals link stated 609) - so with the 5% off it came to 549 without quidco - posters don't include Quidco in there headline price. So dont think it is now possible to get the OP price.

I get £559.54 with the 5% discount voucher.

damn they changed the price!

That's without delivery - add another 20 quid for delivery - the price earlier was 549 including delivery

Yes, I realised that after posting.

I'm sure these briefly had 4850s instead of 4570s when I looked a couple of weeks ago.

Nice CPU though...well tempted.

These and a few other Dell laptops have a bad fault causing high "dpc latency". I bought a couple of the 1737's a month or so back, only to dicsover they were useless for serious audio work, even simple recording, and also for video streaming . Both had to go back, and there are a queue of angy folk with these laptops. (google "dell studio dpc latency").

:x

Other than this, they are nice laptops, and if you know you will never need to do any serious AV work or presentations, they could be fine. Also a good price imho, but they do have this serious flaw.

Heat & Rep added - seems a well specced machine for the price...

I was really considering this last night even though it was about £100 over my budget (65 after quidco maybe). But I think now that they fixed the price its just a bit too much.

Surely there will be bargains to be had when W7 comes out?!

Hopefully?!

Hmm. I got this exact laptop, bar a much worse processor (2.0 Ghz T4200) for £370 from dell outlet a couple of months ago. Would this processor show that much difference?

I changed my mind about buying a Studio last week because the lid and screen flexed really badly under slight pressure. There's very little protection for the LCD, which is hinted at in the notebookcheck review link above. I'm on my second Dell Latitude (the last one lasted 4 years of mostly being on 12 hours a day), and I was very disappointed in the Studio build quality by comparison. I know it's not a fair to compare the Latitude because of the price difference, but check out the Dell Studio 1555 in your local Curry's before you commit!

Is the core i7 processor Studio 15 not a better option given the £90 price difference? Not really certain how much better the i7 would be in grunt terms - any views?

It's a 1.6GHz quad-core so will be slower in certain situations. Here's a chart on how Turbo Boost performs at best - Xbitlabs

Is the 4570 the GDDR3 or 2 version?

I'm glad I read your comment, I was really tempted to buy this laptop because the specs are really good for the price.

Just out of interest, what laptop did you get in the end? I'm after a laptop for music production (just for on the road, got main workhorse computer to do main stuff) and traktor. I've been recommended a lenovo g550 which looks good, and of course macbook pro but is a fair way out of my price range
