Only £679 (before other discounts) if you go for 4GB ram: Ecode N0055805

- Simon.

£749 if you want the 1920 x 1080 screen though

Original Poster

Yeah i got the n0055805 - couldnt really justify the extra just for 2gb ram.

got to stop somewhere.

still a great deal though.

seems a bit pointless
cold deal

Everything is awesome, except for the graphics card which kind of makes me cry. If you want to get some all-round good results out of this, you may want to contact Dell by phone and ask them if there is an option to include a better graphics card.

Oh and I'd go with 4 gig ram instead of 6 gig ram as suggested, 4 gig is going to be all you need on a laptop.

Thanks for that, such insight, voted hot !

And make sure you add on the backlit keyboard!

Surely this ]http//ww…d=1 is better??

Considering the way way way better graphics and price?

It’s not better just different so it depends what your priorities are.
This has a much much much better CPU (provided your applications scale well to 8 threads) and not everyone needs a high end GPU so that would be wasted.

Posted £679 deal two weeks ago.

Anyway, i've had mine (extended warranty, 4gig ram, win7 pro, 9 cell battery for 748) for 5 days now. Overall, its very fast (refreshed 20million cells with =rand() function, taking on a few seconds, utilising 8 cores multi-threaded). Graphics is a bit weak and have a few problems with drivers, but it functions well, on older games and new games using low spec.

hot deal! I am looking for a similar spec laptop, say HP DV6 i7

others comments on realtively weak graphic is a concern.

btw, don't forget quidco

for this price, was hoping to have bluray & 1GB Grahpics, to make it a quality gaming/movies laptop, but too much to expect from Dell I suppose...

Yeah same here. Was looking at a brand new HP DV6i7 from the US on ebay for about the same price and pretty much the same spec but looks like the HP has a better graphics card. I'm assuming I'd have to pay import tax though which might take the HP well above this price.

I was thinking the same about Bluray, seems very expensive to not have a Bluray drive and utilise that 1080 screen.

It seems to be so hard to find a good 15" laptop on a budget right now, there's always a weak element to the system somewhere. I looked at all the Dells but the 4XXX series graphics cards put me right off, ended up pre-ordering this one, which has a better balance of components for me, but unfortunately isn't a 1080P screen

play.com/PC/…tml

It's an Acer, which I know some people are snobbish about, but has 4Gb, a midrange 5XXX series graphics card, 500Gb HD, reasonable Core i5 and BluRay

Edited - hmm, I thought hotukdeals had eaten my reply here so I posted this separately. No offense intended by the double posting

At this price I think I'd want a 1gb gfx card and a 9-cell battery.

Whine moan whine moan blah blah blah. I'd expect this to bring world peace at this price.

gribbley - I hear what your saying, mid-range/weak(?) always some weak elements. If bluray is what you want then yours is a good deal.

I will point out this post was about the i7 CPU and 6gb ram not to mention the 7200 speed hard drive.

It will suit some and not others - games will be ok, multi-tasking us where this baby will fly.

Interestingly the studio 16 is a lot more expensive than this but I don't think offers much more.

I actually went for the studio 17, size doesn't matter, i5-540m cpu, 4gb ram, ati 1GB 5730, 500GB 7200 HD - which is pretty solid for £700 + 5% quidco. For me bluray isn't as important.

Please forgive my ignorance but is the i7 in every respect better/faster (or at least equal) to the i5?

Also, does anyone know if the i7 is likely to run into cooling problems? I ask this because I bought a relatively fast laptop 3 years ago (T7200 was a fair performer at the time) and after a year it had to be replace due to motherboard meltdown.

Would appreciate any insights - cheers.

I have ordered one today which will due to arrive on 4th March Approx.
Graphic card is 1GB now though in description here it says 512MB.
I am also concerned about Heating issue? does any one know about the question asked on heating issue please.:?

I'm completely new to this offer/promotion thing (I don't even know what quidco is or how to instigate it!) so while I'm at it, apart from my question above relating to over-heating I'd like to ask a couple of other questions if anyone would be kind enough to throw a little light...

I see this deal expires on the 17th Feb - is that inclusive or does the deal expire tonight?

I notice quite a few posts on Dell offers and I've been getting the impression (maybe wrongly!!) that when one offer dies Dell usually have another quick on its heels or at least in the offing.

I'm not in a particular hurry to replace my current laptop which is working fine, but would like to replace it within the next 3 months and I wonder if the price pressure is generally up or down at the moment? i.e. is this i7 deal so amazingly good that it should be snapped up because prices are going to climb? - I realise there can be no definitive answer to the question but would appreciate an informed opinion.

cheers

I'm totally confused by all these different processors; is a
Intel® Core i7-720QM Mobile Processor (1.6GHz, turbo up to 2.8GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
faster/better than a
Intel® Centrino® C2D (P8600, 2.4hz, 3MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB )

At first glance to a novice like me, the Centrino runs faster (unless the i7 is in turbo mode - how does that happen?!) but what other factors need to be taken into account with these?
Thanks for any insight...!

I can't answer your q regarding turbo activity but this website will give you a rough guide to cpu ranking

cpubenchmark.net/cpu…php

..key the cpu number (number is usually enough to narrow down the options) in the "find cpu" field

the 8600 scores 1615 and ranks 224th best
the i7-720 scores 3290 and ranks 84th best

Performance is always task software-specific but the i7 is so much faster than the 8600 I'd expect the i7 to be usually noticeably faster and never slower.

Thank you bristle, that is most helpful
