I have the processor in my Samsung Q310, its like lightning. Will load photoshop in about 5 seconds.

Also this has the LED screen and backlit keyboard, and the 2 year warranty is a bonus.

I can only see Intel Core 2 Duo T8600. Why?

the link to John Lewis says its a T8600 processor. I thought the P processor is better, uses less Watts so in theory more battery runtimes. Or have I been misled....again

The spec says 3gb ram and 256mb graphics card.

Is it not better to get this, notwithstanding the 2 year warranty?

configure.euro.dell.com/del…dhs

Bigger hard drive, more RAM, more video memory - slightly slower CPU.

Genuinely interested in what people think best deal is? Am I missing something that the 1555 has over the 15?

Can the OP confirm if the spec is wrong on the website? I must admit, a quick google suggests it might be, and the posted spec may be correct - I can find no mention of a studio 1555 with a T8600

There is no T8600, its the P8600. There is confusion I think.

Yeah, been waiting for that for ages - price of machines with Vista pre-installed should now drop even further! Bonus for everyone who doesn't need/want the 7ista upgrade

Is it not allowed for people to buy high performance machines?

Perhaps people use them for work and need them to be very quick?

Says T8600 not P series so it uses 35w instead of 25w and is a 45nm Penryn Core 2 Duo.
The gpu is just behind the Mobility Radeon HD 3650 & 9600M GS. It's bottom end class 2 but should run most thing you throw at it including CoD Modern Warfare 2 on the 1366 x 768 (16:9) screen. Shame not the 512MB version of the GPU & a higher resolution screen for the slightly larger display.

If application load times are important to you buy one of these on the Dell Outlet for £150 less with a 2.1GHz CPU and a similar spec but with Win7 and put the money saved towards an SSD which will give you dramatically improved application load times.
The faster CPU is good for improved performance but won’t affect application load time significantly which is much more drive related.

If you read into it, it is a common mistake that retailers put a T in front of the 8600, it is a P8600, there is no difference in processors. Check it out on intels website, there is no T8600. And I believe the info on the website is wrong, I think this is the 512mb chip (graphics)

I will post up on here when I receive mine.

Cobblers!!

Standard sata laptop drives, I have tried many different laptops, and the P8600 chip is one of the fastest.

Processor makes a huge difference in performance! As does hdd, but whats the point in buying a new machine to mess with it and put different drives in it etc?

Irrespective of the CPU, its pretty average spec compared to dell's other offerings at £599 - e.g.

Studio XPS 16 T9600 2.8Ghz, 4GB DDR3, 320GB HDD, 1080p Full HD WLED & better spec'ed 512MB ATI 3670 for £133 more! (£733) although 1 year warranty.
Recently sent 2 studio's back after problems with the chassis and general built quality.
Arrandale core also hitting the mainstream, so not even sure whether it's worth £599.

I hope it turns out to have 512MB vram.

They don't have the Full HD screen, but the 1gb Radeon HD 4650 gpu in them is nice, and the cpus aren't half bad either!

You said a processor does not make much of a difference in load times, which is absolute rubbish. End of the day, whats your issue? Why do you need to put your point across in this thread if you are just going to talk nonsense? - Are you jealous your processor is not as good?

I simply said that if application load times are a priority that you are much better off going with a slightly slower CPU and using the money saved to buy an SSD. Just read the reviews if you don’t believe me as the hard dive is the main bottleneck for load times.

Why you had to take that as a personal attack and start insulting me I don’t know; just trying to pass out some information as YOU mentioned load times so I thought it may be of help. Have a good day.

People like you are the main reason others dont like posting deals, because they end up getting slated. How have I insulted you can I ask?

I know exactly what you are talking about regarding SSD, but dont you think its a pretty pathetic response to a mid range laptop computer for £599?

Just because you want to show people you are more knowledgeable about certain things doesnt make your comments welcome.

You seem to see criticism where there isn’t any! I didn’t say anything negative about this deal just pointed out something that may have been of use to someone even if not you.

My comment was posted for anybody on HUKD to read and judging by the REP I get many people are grateful that I take the time to share some knowledge here.
You can’t please all the people all the time of course.

For £600 I'd expect a better GPU and Full Win7 (not the rather annoying upgrade).

I think I'll give it a miss.

There is nothing spectacular about this in terms of a deal, similar spec laptops cost around this. I think the 2 year warranty is decent though. Not hot, not cold.

lol @ technical pissing contest...it even looks like you're comparing member sizes now with your REP.

Sorry, not taking sides, it just tickled me. :-D

Thanks Jawa, although would prefer 14-15.6" screen size. And I've found pretty much what I've been looking for and should be released soon. It's a SOny Vaio 14" Core i3-330M (2.13Ghz), 330M GT 512MB, 4GB DDR, 320GB HD, LED 1366 x 768, windows 7 64-bit which should be released February for around £700-750.
