I’ve been meaning to post this for a while so thanks to Forbez for posting another Studio 1558 deal for reminding me – link to other deal.
This has a 1080P TFT, 6GB of RAM and a faster HDD but otherwise it’s the same laptop.

Quidco is 6% - quidco.com/del…?ac
Topcashback is 5% - topcashback.co.uk/dell/

Price after Quidco is £682.38

This is an awesome price.

i would have bought it if it had a 5670 graphics or higher. But this is a great deal for people who do not want to play some new games at decent settings

Looking at notebookcheck.net/ATI…tml it appears this graphics card is better than the Geforce 8600M GT, although only by around 10%.

This is an absolute belter

yeh but it cant run bad company 2 at 30+ fps on low settings....

Hmmm, I think Dell may have put a block on this, everytime I click next component the page freezes until i F5 it???

Also doesn't let me add it to basket either.

Same for me - I wanted to add it to basket and it just freezes....

Their web site is often slow. It's been this price for weeks with the 10% code so it's not a misprice.

Must be something wrong with your link then, the page freezes when you try to either go to next component or add to basket.

Try going via Quidco and use the eCode listed in the deal as that’s the way I accessed it.

Thanks have done that. Next stumbling block the finance company Dell uses are down at the moment! So can't continue with the order :x the company they use (creation finance) website is down for construction and as Dell's order page attempts to connect you to their website you can't continue, boo!

Hope this deal is still going when the site is back up.

They seem to have fixed the random restarting issue with a bios fix, not a good start for them though.

I'd be more concerned with the battery life, I asked them for the battery life with those configs and received this answer "The battery back up for a 6 cell battery would be 2.5-3.0 hours approximately, depending on the applications you run". I received the same answer after reducing the ram to 4gb and 5,400 rpm hdd as well. Guess it'd have to be a home laptop for the most part unless you upgrade the battery.

Not everyone plays games you know?
This is a killer HD video editing laptop for the price with the 1080P screen, loads of RAM, fast CPU and 7,200 rpm HDD. It just lacks a Blu-ray player.

I bought a less powerful version of this laptop when it was on offer 6 months ago, I love it.

yes, but it's a real shame they've scrimped on the graphics card in a machine like this, I'd buy it otherwise.

Graphic card is absolute crap.... I bought in march and this is guy is back to dell depot for repair.
They are not replacing the machine at all, I doubt it could be waste of money. Guys look something better than this model.

I don't think they do a decent gaming card on the 15" models, you need to get a Studio 17 with a HD 5650 for that

You need to add the voucher

Not voting hot or cold, as this seems a reasonable deal for those who want/need quad core & full HD, but the GPU is so poor it makes it a very hard sell.

I'd bought a fujitsu pi3560 laptop from a deal on here at christmas. The inital deal posted had it at £479 but it sold out quick, I ended up paying £525. It has a lowly dual core CPU (T6600) and the display is only 720p but the games performance is on average double that of this £720 deal because it has a GT 240M as it's GPU.

As the op pointed out, this is a killer HD video editing machine and it's also great for semi pro photgraphers, but for those who might occasionally game, you can get a lot more for a lot less by avoiding this GPU.

I think the lack of bluray is quite an omission too, why bother to get a laptop with a full HD screen if the main media source that benefits from it is absent.

I'd also say in fairness to the op, prices are very strange just now with how world economies are and with exchange rate flucuations so it's not a fair comparison to compare prices from 6 & 12 months ago. But compared with other deals for laptops, this isn't that hot. I think it's about time we got a lukewarm button, this voting hot or cold malarky is too confrontational.

omg I just actually pressed the button in the middle and it worked. never knew it functions lol

better off getting the dell studio 17 with i5 processor 4gb ram and 5650 card for gaming.ive got one overclocked and its great.

Damn. I've got a more than good Dell XPS M1330. 2 years old though, so tempted. Great spec for dev work, should handle Visual Studio 2010 nicely.

Argh, do I, don't I.

Okay, it seemed such a ridiculous thing to say, I thought it was quite witty. Who knew, you apparently...

Nice to see a sensible post about an alternative for gamers.
It gets tedious reading people complaining about what this isn’t as it’s like voting a hot deal on a high end 4x4 cold because it can’t match a Ferrari around the Nurburgring.

Why would you want to watch HD quality video on a 15" screen???

Why would you want to watch anything on a 50" plasma TV when there are cinemas with giant screens you can visit?

Oh yeah, it's because you sit a bit closer to your TV, so it still seems quite big.

And guess what, you usually sit even closer to your laptop screen, sometimes it's even as far away as your lap, so it too seems suitably large and when you're watching a 1080p HD movie, the detail is fantastic. And it's also quite easy to take with you wherever you go, cinema screens & 50" plasma TVs aren't quite so easy to fit in a suitcase. Mkv files appear to be readily available if you go looking, but bluray would have seemed a sensible addition when they decided to go with an HD 1080p screen.
