OUCH!

I’ve had more problems at work with this model than all the other Dell systems put together so I’d be wary due to the short warranty.
Apart from that good spec for the price.

Hardly any difference between the i3-550 and i5-650; just Turbo Boost from 3.2 to 3.46GHz but not with all cores loaded.
6GB of RAM is unnecessary for most and the extra 2GB costs about £20 these days.
If yours has a 12 month warranty I think you have a better deal.

Well in that case you definitely have a better deal. Dell refurbs are almost always superb and DSG group are the cowboys of the refurbished PC world. They should start selling saddles, chaps and chewing tobacco in-store.

I've no knowledge of DSG and refurbs, mind explaining why they are cowboys? Other than the 3 month warranty their prices recently seem pretty good.

Dell usually uses Samsung, Hynix, Nanya & occasionally Kingston memory from my experience.
They use major brand Hard Drives.
The mobos are custom designs from the large ODMs/OEMs i.e. not retail manufacturers.

Had major MAJOR problems with the AMD 1090t computer I got from NOVATECH
Its gone back again to be sorted (bit peed off with Novatech tech supp blokes) so I was very tempted to buy this and tell Novatech to stick it and give me my money back. But Agharta put me off this !

What is the motherboard with this ?

you can get one about £40 cheaper if you live near a PC World / Currys outlet store, but they come with a 12 month warranty.

might be of use for someone

thanks mate didnt know that but having looked no use to me, i live in london they only have outlet stores in Chester, Chesterfield, Merry Hill and Manchester

edit found 1 in london but still too far : Currys, Wembley, 1a Stadium Park, Wembley Park Drive, Wembley, Middlesex, HA9 8HQ, UK. saw this on moneysavingexpert they say this wembley store is a outlet store but everywhere i searched the word 'outlet' isnt mentioned just currys so check before you go if you are planning that is.

I should add that the problems with these weren’t that bad it’s just that the returns with Dell systems are generally very low so even though we’ve been unlucky with the XPS 8100 it’s not that bad. Sorry, not trying to scare monger.

What put me off this deal is that from personal experience DSG group refurbs are not even remotely in the same class as Dells and others on this forum have corroborated that.
So the combination of it being an XPS 8100 (minor issue), DSG group refurb (alert alert!) and only a 3 month warranty (red alert) made me wary of this deal.

The chances are though that if it doesn’t break down in the first 3 months when it is under warranty it will be fine so I am being overly cautious really. If you aren’t an overly cautious person I would still recommend it.

Im out lol, cba to argue with them if a fault happens after 3 months

what if it happened after a 12 month warranty? same scenario really.

if a unit is going to fail, it will fail ... don't let a refurb put you off.

I've had 2 from Argos (eBay outlet) and both were "as new" when they arrived - would buy again (although they had added bonus of 12 month warranty)

Yep, I'm still confused, typically if a PC is going to fail it happens within a few weeks or once the warranty runs out. So why is the DSG group cowboys? Is it just the 3 months warranty thing or is there an actual reason?

No I am not going for it don't care even if it was 12 months warrenty now just remembered with dsg after sales, from what I heard and read it will be a struggle to get your pc repaired by them, don't know if it will be different treatment becuase it's an outlet store but I'm not talking the risk unless someone has good after sales experience with them

good price but only 1 PCI-E slot.

LOL ROFLMAO

The HD5450 is the worst of the 5 Series graphics cards, notorious for being pretty much useless.

If it had a 5670 or 5770 might have a bit more respect.

If you're buying this for gaming would suggest you budget for upgrading the graphics card.
