lovely but can't afford it

Bet this'll get cold for those that don't know what the different between TN and IPS is and why the latter are much more expensive.

You have to see an IPS panel in action to appreciate how good it is - I have 2 of the 24" models and they have better colour reproduction than my Panasonic Plasma

Wow - I have the U2410 but this looks awesome - Must Resist!!!!!!!!

Doctor doctor, I've got a fever. Upgrade fever that is.

Working with an older 20" Dell Ultrasharp IPS panel right now.

I have a 2405, so this would be ideal especially the fact id have HDCP support!

Great price. Whats the difference between buying as a normal consumer and as a Small Business? Do you lose some rights (ie distance selling etc)?

Yes you lose your rights as a consumer since you are purchasing "as a business" so the main thing is that DSR is lost. However, it still has the 3 year warranty with next working day swap if you should get a faulty one (or develop a fault later on).

Can I ask, if I want to change inputs with this, how many buttons do I need to press?

I know it has touch buttons.

Just that my 2408WFP is excellent and I can change inputs easily with a few clicks of the same button, do I need to go into the menu with this one?

The only reason I'm concerned about this monitor is the resolution, its great but the text can appear quite small on these monitors, and upping the DPI isnt always as good.... tricky. Very tempted...

Hurry voucher runs out 26th Nov

I just checked this and the voucher runs out at the end of today (23rd), so I took the plunge and bought one.

It expires on 26th (if you enter the code it tells you the expiry). They also seem to be offering 25% off now, plus the 10% code, so works out at £570 ish. I'm still not sure about the tiny text in menus for this monitor, so I think i'll hold off, but at that price its a real bargain. I know you can increase your dpi in windows but after experimenting with my panel it tends to make things look a bit fuzzy.

With 10% off quidco, you can end up paying £520!!! approx. Super bargain!

Still seems bloody expensive...! Rather have some discount Vs no discount though.

bloody expensive? are you for real? This is one of the best 27" monitors you can buy with a lovely high resolution. A similar panel from any other brand (bar Hazro but their pixel policy is dire) will set you back at least £700 if not £800 or even £900.

This is a bargain for those doing critical colour work with their computers - photographers and the like.

lol was just waiting for it.... just moaning becuase I can't afford it and would of liked it to be even cheaper!!

Can't believe it - since I bought one on Tuesday the price has dropped £30!!! - you can't win.
Mind you this time next year I expect they will be nearer £400 - such is the price of State of the Art.

Might interest you - we get "Special Deals" at work - and I was quoted £700!

I've never found the work deals to be cheaper quite the opposite. Which is a shame.

Wow thanks guys. I just ordered this with the 25% discount and got a further £52.43 off thanks to your voucher. happy Days. All in, this monitor has cost me £570.84 including VAT and delivery. Only £110 more than the 24" equivilent. This Monitor is £700 at Amazon.

Thank you so much
John

If someone were able to subsidise this monitor I would be eternally grateful

If you want, I'll buy half yours if you buy half of mine?

This is an AMAZING PRICE! Thanks OP!
These monitors are probably the best money can buy, they have the same technology as the apple cinema display 27". They are proper professional displays.

Wrong, purchasing as a consumer is a matter of fact so unless you are a business the DSRs still apply.

You sure? I've seen everyone say it doesn't apply. Surely they could argue that you knew it was under a business purchase... and whether you purchased as an individual or not the business terms apply.

Hot! Been waiting for these to come down in price a bit, ordered. Through Quidco too so hopefully got the monitor for £524, nice!

Almost, the Apple displays use LED backlighting, the Dell uses CCFL so the colour gamut is slightliy narrower allegedly.(Source: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2922)

Such a shame these are just no good for gaming, I don't really want to have two monitors for doing seperate things

Last time I checked the Dell T&Cs (quite some time ago!) they were split into different sections depending on the nature of the customer - not which website he bought from. So, I'd say Dell acknowledge that a consumer does not lose his consumer rights just by ordering from the small business website.

Price is Excluding VAT though :-(

Edit: Price comes up correctly now inc. VAT :-)

This is VERY HOT, retail on this baby is about £800, I payed £700, I have owned both the 24" and the 27", the 27 is far superior in every way, IPS is fantastic you would be able to resell in a few months for 20% profit

Still a good price with the VAT added though, I bought my U2711 not long after release for £700 which I thought was a good price and it's certainly been well worth every penny. I don't agree that it's poor for gaming as I've had no issues with it and unfortunately nor has my brother who when visiting can't pull himself away from TF2 at 2560x1600

Nope... Just apply the above voucher.

Lovely looking monitor and great price. Could probably just about afford it but then I'd need to upgrade my graphics card to something high-end enough to take advantage of it so I'll have to pass for now.

Hot deal though

I quite like my current monitor for gaming and films but it is terrible at reproducing CMYK colour space and I find 22" painful for design work.
This looks like an ideal upgrade and might encourage some 'out of office' time spent on new techniques.

Thanks X10 ! I was "absolutely" sure that this monitor has an equivalent of the apple cinema display.

Mostly it's in the refresh rate and lag. When I went from CRT to my current LG 226WTQ I noticed it a lot, I've got a little more used to it now, but the S-IPS panels are slower still than TN. I tried a Dell 2408WFP last week and was shocked how much I noticed the difference while trying to play Fallout 3 (and that's not even an FPS!). Obviously I know most people looking at this monitor won't be considering it for gaming, but I'm in a minority where I can only afford 1 PC and 1 monitor for doing graphical work and playing PC games.
John, did you have another LCD before the U2711, did they compare favourably with eachother in terms of gaming?

mumbojumbo

Have you tried mating them or with them if you are that way inclined! oO

I have this screen and I recommend it 100%. It is a beautiful piece of technology. Call of Duty and L4D2 are awesome on it at full resolution. You can even drop AA on your graphics card as the pixel ratio is tiny.
