Great price for a 17" screen, and 2gig of ram...good find Mike

When I try this, I only get 1Gb RAM. 2 GB takes it up to £446.57.
And, yes, I have reduced the warranty to the basic ....

Alternatively, sacrifice Dell's over-priced RAM for a 128MB dedicated graphics card.

2GHz, 120GB HDD, 1GB RAM, 128MB graphics, 17" screen for £368.95 delivered? Sounds too good to be true.

Theres a few different combo's of components you can try, just needs to be £299+ before VAT for the free delivery to kick in. I didnt have time this morning to go through them all but feel free to post your variations for others to benefit from:thumbsup:

is this a better deal than yesterdays n0115011 for £327??

it is just the vostro's that offer free delivery, currently have a 2ghz core 2 duo Inspiron 1525 specced up for £494, and thats apparently with £90 off, however the delivery charge is £60

bloody £60 delivery charge, ridiculous amount that, must cost what £10 or so really?

Good deal but as suggested earlier reduce memory to 1024MB. Then upgrade the CPU to the 1.4Ghz Core 2 Duo and the battery to the 9-cell unit. Price is the same but the laptop will be much better.

The C2D processor will obliterate the Celeron and laptop memory can be found much cheaper than on Dell's site.

This one about the delivery charge comes up time and time again, of course it only costs dell £10 to deliver, but they use the delivery charge as a marketing tool to enable them to easily have £60 off sales without having to have to product itself on offer at a pre set price for so many weeks.
Best not to think of it as delivery but just bundle it into the final price, or not depending on the offer.

How does that look??

Ordered it yesterday and it said it wouldn't be delivered until 12th of feb!!!
Phoned up and it seems they have the call centre in india or somewhere as I couldnt really understand them, will email and moan instead!

Cheers MikeT, made hot!

Oh, and I bought the lowest ram so I could use the kingston deal I found on here!

Does anybody know if the 9-cell battery protrudes from the back of the 17" Vostro models the way it does with the 15.4" models? Cheers.

Yes it does, it's only the Vostro 1000 it doesn't protrude from (cheers MikeT!).

Do you guys think for a very light user of the laptop (skype and a few emails, the odd word doc, etc..) the celeron processor and 2GB ram spec of this machine is quick enough for them?

(The laptop has already been ordered but I was just thinking about this - and getting worried I under spec'd, being a Vista machine)

I would have thought so, it may not be the fastest machine but 2gig ram is sufficient and imo, the celeron processor has never really been that bad anyway, I've certainly had no problems
with my old celeron m420 which has never let me down.

I think it'll be fine!!

Thanks - thats put my mind at rest - I keep reading for running vista you need a better processor, etc.....but then DELL are selling it this way - so it must be ok.

On my older celeron processor I was running only 512mb of ram and when I did the Vista compatability test it didn't mention anything about it, but presume with that amount of ram it would have been mind numbingly slow, so yeah I'm sure you'll be fine!

I ordered my vostro with 1gig ram purely because there is cheaper deals for ram on the net and on here.....

This seems like a very good deal to me.

Expired it as it now has only 1024MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x512] instead of 2gig
