Noted! & Voted! Hot Hot!! :-D

339 will be ex vat though won't it chimerachris?
Great deal if you add some more RAM yourself

I've been after a good deal on a laptop for a while a was considering the dell 1720 at £480 so to get this with upgraded 160 gig hd for £150 less is a bargain. The CPU doesn't bother me and I don't play games so its ideal. I particularly wanted a machine that takes two hds as this can do. And xp over vista is another plus for me. I just need to upgrade the ram a bit later and get a second hd.

My first post so I'll vote hot later when I figure it out. Thanks very much to the op as that was exactly the budget range I had in mind and no compromise in my desired specs.

Interesting...

Mike do you know if the processors in these can be upgraded later (I was thinking of getting this as you've specced and popping in a T8300 when I get paid next month!)?

I'm quite handy with taking laptops apart so its no problem

I thought that would the pre VAT price, but it comes up at £339 delivered for that spec. Good price.

If someone can explain how to lose the 17.5% VAT delivered, I'll take one now.

And no HDMI out as far as I am aware.

Does anybody know my rights for cancelling an order on dell business, please. I placed an order for a vostro 1700 on Monday, which is in production, but it's now £35 cheaper! I tried to ring up to cancel and the woman clearly said I had no right to cancel because it's a dell business order. Help!! Please!!

TOTALLY AMAZING PRICE.

If you read Mikes benchmarks on the Vostro 1500 with this graphics card you will notice that a Core 2 Duo makes very little difference to games frame rates.

A Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ would only add a few extra frames per second to most games.
Whereas a Core 2 Duo 2.4GHZ with Geforce 8400M graphics would lose double digits in the frame rates.

Whats the Dell E-Value™ code so I can go through the EPP?

I'm going to get a script for this I think as I say it so often. IF you ordered from SB site and used your own name where it asks for a business name and said it was for "HOME" use when asked you are entitled to cancel without penalty under DSR.
If the rep you talk to doesnt allow you ask for a supervisor or ring and get another rep.
I have in the past asked dell this question and am told that you do have cancellation rights if you act as above.

ok so it has no HDMI out but what about VGA or DVI?

As I'm planning on hooking this upto my LCD.

thanks in advance

You can add extra memory eg 2 GB for less than £30 from:
crucial.com/uk/…700
but your 1GB which comes with the laptop will be wasted as its only got 2 slots.

Business or not, distance selling act.

Quote it to them, no term or condition can change it because it is a statutory right. Advise them that u purchased it for home.

Thanks Mike. I did say 'home' but I used my husband's driving school name as the business name, because it said 'business name', even tho it's not for his business. I guess that means I've blown the chance to cancel??

Thanks Aircanman too. Do those rights apply from the business site?

Nope. Just say you were confused with it said business name so you entered one.

PC World business does this because they are classed as a reseller, but dell isnt a reseller, they manufacturer these goods and sell online. I am sure the DSA stands.

If you're after a cheap 17" laptop you might want to keep an eye out on the DSG sites for stock of the Advent 8117 refurb - currently available, but it's been in and out of stock on Dixons website for a month or so:

dixons-online.org/mar…117

I got one for £248 after discount code and quidco - still the best deal I've seen for a great 17" screen (the glossy type), 1.7Ghz Pentium Dual Core (though not a Core 2 Duo), Vista Home Premium, and all the usual stuff - DVD-RW, card reader, 120Gb hard drive, etc. Also the memory comes as 1x 1Gb so only costs £12 to upgrade to 2Gb. Though it says 'refurb' mine seems to be completely new too.

I know its alot more, but I bought the deal they have on at the moment with the HP 17" laptop. AMD processor, I have had about 4 laptops from comet and play, and they were all faulty. One of them had the T7300 C2D in it and to be honest, the AMD is holdign its own compared to the intel.

I'm pretty sure that this is quoted without the C2D and tru-life upgrades.

Unless of course, I am indeed missing something, and you can upgrade to tru-life and 1.8 C2D for pennies and not £80?

cant get any where near the quoted price or the spec......think this one has gone now!!

Thanks again, Mike and Aircanman. I have emailed to request to cancel, can't face a long argument on the phone, and I'll just see whether it works or not.

ah thats strange..if i go trough quidco cant get any where near that price but id i use the link then i get the price...strange!!
