Surely it would be adviseable to wait a few weeks until they have a better sale on for the Business page? I've seen Vostro laptops go for much cheaper before...

Heat added because it is a good deal.

do these have HDMI yet Mike or does the Inspirions ?

Yes it should be eligible for the voucher and maybe the voucher will take 10% off before vat making it even sweeter.

...don't understand the difference? If it were pre-VAT, you'd generate 10% less vat... if post-VAT, 10% of vat would also be taken off... same total amount surely...?

I think XPS laptops also have HDMI if that's any help

works out better if its worked out before vat for example

£100 item + vat (£17.50)

before vat 10% of £100 = £90
vat is then worked out on the £90 * 1.175 = Total Amount £105.75

if its after vat its £117.50 less 10% £106.82

heat added by the way

Hi all.
I have just bought a Samsung R700 laptop for £692, it has pretty much the same specs exept the graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS, a lower spec than this one!
Spec can be found here: laptopshop.co.uk/Sam…htm
I haven't opened it yet so can send it back, but I notice this deal isn't too hot. Am I missing something here? Should I keep the Samsung?
Many thanks,
Paul.

maybe we have been spoilt by MikeT in the past but this doesnt look that good compared to some of the other deals.. Wasnt there a similar Vostro for £380 just a while back, I remember because I wish I got it.

I think you'll find that £117.50 less 10% is £105.75. When multiplying, the order of the calculations doesn't make any difference:

The first is (£100 * 0.9) * 1.175 = £105.75
The second is (£100 * 1.175) * 0.9 = £105.75

Otherwise you'd get different results for 1 x 2 x 3 as opposed to 2 x 3 x 1 when we all know the 1 can be removed from any multiplication, wherever it is.

On another note, I noticed this in Scan's today only on Tuesday:

scan.co.uk/pro…483

It's a Turion, yes, but it does have 2 x 7800 256MB in SLi... Any thoughts on this? It can be found at the today only price of £646 (instead of £939!) using this link:

electric-spoon.com/cgi…cgi

It does have a big hi-res screen, XP Pro SP2, but big battery and therefore big weight and only 1GB ram - Is it £60 better despite its shortcomings?

Tomshardware suggests the (desktop) 7800GT is better than the 8600 GT, while Notebookcheck say the 7800 (not the GT) is very similar to the 8600 GT, yet the 8600 has much better benchmark results (shader 4.0, I guess)...

why are they becoming so cheap with such amazing specs?

my sony vaio cost £900 and was half as good

Your second calculation is baloney. The total amount is 105.75 in both cases.

You should be able to see without calculation that deducting 10% from 117.5 is never going to end in a figure which includes 82 pence
