MEGA HOT!!!! BARGAIN!!!
WELL DONE MIKE...

BTW..do you know if theres any new deals on the vostro 1400 range....
Thanks in advance.

Good job - Hot!

You are THE MAN, Mike.

Voted HOT!!!!!!

That's a great price, thanks for the posting, heat and rep added.

Hot, hot, hot.

By the time you take off the OS and shipping, they can't be getting much more than £100 for the hardware.

Just bought the C521 posted by Mike T last month for £188 and very pleased with it. These seems like a slightly improved processor (over the C521) for the same money.

Is this better than the Dell Dimension 3100 would you say?

This a basic computer for those with basic needs at a very basic price.

1.6ghz core-duo? The other is 2.0ghz Core2Duo
1gb RAM? The other is 2gb.
250gb with 8mb datacache? The other is 350gb with 16mb.

Also with the other has a decent wireless keyboard and mouse and better GFX card. It's a better deal IMO.

but they are not the same price.

Company a fiesta to a ferrari why dont you ...

Upgrade this PC to the same spec as the other, you'll see it's almost £100 more.

It just seems that this is £188 for a £200 computer, and the other is £270 for a £300 computer. This is a HOTDEALS forum, and the other is a hotter deal.

So buy it then, not everyone wants or needs a higher spec. computer, this thread is about a Dell Computer for £188.00.

Thank you.

BillyBobThorntz0, the point is if you want a pc under £200 and arn't bothered about specs, go for this one. If you are bothered about specs, and clearly you are, go for the other one.

Personally i was a PC under £200 but i still want the spec! so i cant decide if i buy the cheap one and always want more power or spend too much money but be happy with it for longer.

These days processor speed is not really that relevant!

Okay, but my point still stands, the other is better value for money.

FYI, I don't need or want this PC

Not wanting to reply so many times in the same post, but excuse me? Isn't this a forum for discussion, where, regardless of need for the item, opinions of others are welcomed - especially those giving honest advice to potential buyers that deals offering a better value for money are available. But yes, of course, some people need to stick within budgets and I can see that.

So less attitude in the future? :?

BillyBobThorntz0, your point wasnt very clear in the first post, it sounded like you were saying this is a bad deal.

Where as you were stating that isnt a bad deal, but for £80 more you can get something much better.

You cleared it up in post 17.

sly200x doesnt need to say things like that...

Ha ha, ok ok, I'll put my fishing rod away.

Personally I would go for the more expensive model because running Vista, you will get a smoother experience with 2gb RAM rather than 1gb (I would personally rather have XP). Also, the processor is a good 25% faster (although the gains are not noticible outside of extreme cicrumstances). The slightly bigger HD and bigger HD cache is worth between £10 and £15 alone).

The graphics card is also many times better on the more expensive model.

Weigh up your options and choose. I say the RAM / Processor / GFX and HD increases warrant the extra £80 or so.

But that is based purely on your biased opinion, as I said before, this thread is about a budget PC costing £188, clearly intended for those that do not require / cannot afford a higher spec. machine.

The other machine is not " better value " for those that don't need, or cannot afford a higher specified machine.

this deal comes to just over £180 delivered

fantastic!

Yes its possible. You can get internal ones or external ones.

Internal requires you to open the case, fit it and install drivers.
External ones are usb. Just plug and play (you may need to install something)

It sounds like you dont have a great knowledge of computers, if this is the case either consult someone who knows what there doing of buy an external one like this:

microdirect.co.uk/(13…spx

I bought this same tv stick at PC world for £30 last month (buy online and pick up to get this price) and am very happy with it. Very easy to use and set up, although go to the Hauppauge website and download the latest drivers and follow their instructions for setup rather than use the supplied CD software. If having any probs ring Hauppauge customer support in London (regular landline no.) who are very good and will walk you through the process. Recommended product, recommended company. (btw, reception will depend on the usual conditions in your area. I have no probs picking up 68 channels. Using presets to recordTV onto the HDD while you are out is a great function too. Got some great videos of wainwright's lakeland walks to watch later!)

Has this deal ended?
I can't get it to work.

Still working, remember to remove monitor if you dont need it and reduce warranty to the minimum.

applesink:

will that usb tv thingy work with a portable areial, is there one included?

I do a lot of travelling and eat lunch in car but it would be cool if i could use my laptop as a TV?

Lew

Hi again, I couldn't get it to work on my other computer, just kept telling me that it didn't recognise the code on the dell site. It does work on my other computer though, thanks.
Just bought 2 of these with 22" screens and the better graphics card for £775.64.
This has got to be a good deal I think, thanks to the orginal poster.

Does anyone have an idea that how big will be this unit? - Only the tower unit.

Will it fit into a 29" suit case, I want to take it to India if it will fit on my suitcase:santa:

Also, like the notebooks can the DELL warranty on the desktop units also be internationally transferred?

Yes, it comes with a portable aerial which I am using. My PC is in on 3F though, so that might improve reception. You can also plug in your own aerial (e.g. with booster) if necessary.

Edit: yes, I have also loaded the software on my laptop and have been able to pick up reception in the one place I used it (a motorway service station!).

I think you'll have probs in terms of protecting your system with the suitcase unless it's a VERY fat one that allows lots of padding both sides of the computer. Check the measurements on the dell website (or does someone with one of these have a tape-measure?!). How about a slimline case to allow carry-on as hand luggage? I got a C521 deal on here or that reason. Slim cases mean you need to use low-profile graphics cards though, and are generally more difficult for upgrades.

Good price. Cheers again MikeT

Does anyone know if they'll put Home Premium on these instead of Business if you ring them up?

thanks mike, gone for one of these for a lady friend
