Nice post voted HOT

Seems like a nice enough deal the cpu upgrade to 2.2 is only around £11 as well. shame theres no decent deal on 2gb ram

still decent/hot though for a prebuilt

Ram upgrade cheap enough from elsewhere.....nice lil basic system.

Which motherboard is used in these? is there any scope for overclocking? and would the psu have a 6-pin pci-e power cable to support a decent graphics card?

These motherboards can't overclock. And I don't think it has a 6 pin power cable for a top of the range graphix card, but will have a pci express port for a decent one.

Do I need to order a wireless card, to be able to connect this desktop to my wireless broadband connection? .. or it's built in?

not a bad price if you are looking for a htpc , with some upgrades , graphics card , memory and sound card.

You'll need to order a wifi card

Great office PC, but I'd take out the 2x512MB PC5300 RAM and buy a PC6400 2x1GB kit for £30ish.

Good deal wth vista premium. I got this a while back for a similar price with the basic vista and have been pleased with it, though I get annoyed with the way the drive sticks when it closes - its a really stupid design. I keep meaning to apply a little oil but never get around to it.
Still, voted hot.
Dave.

would a ati radeon 9550 graphics card work on this? Also would games like race driver grid work as well?

cheers

No, that's an AGP card. You need PCI-E, something like this ]XFX 8600GTS DDR3 for £50* would do nicely. Don't forget to connect power from the PSU to the graphics card if required.

* Better card recommended in the ]requirements, but a 8600GTS should do well if you're on a tight budget. Also check eBay as you could pick up a relatively cheap PCI-E X1950 Pro /XT /XTX or similar, that may perform better than the 8600GTS. Make sure you know its power requirements & connectors before purchasing.

How does the dual core processor compare to a core 2 duo one? I presume its slower.
Also would i be able to add a decent graphics card like a 8800gt 512mb to it ? Cant see why the 350 psu shouldnt cope with it so long as it fits in the slot.

I guess the core 2 duo are better than the dual core, and I think you can add a decent graphics card like the 8800 gt 512mb as long as the card doesn't require seperatre power from the PSU.

has it expired, cos i getting about 288'ish

Good price.

Tempting, but my budget is bigger than this, I have about £350 to spend, so I'd rather spend the extra and get a better system.

Still so annoyed I missed out on the Vostro 400 deal the other day because I got paid late! Grrr!

E2180 is the same a core2duo except it has a little less cache, same architecture otherwise. Not much in it.

This PC may not have a single molex connector (all SATA drives in Dells these days). If it does have a molex connector, don't those 6-pin to molex adaptors utilize 2 molex connectors?

Is that £2 delivered? eBay might be a better option

As mentioned in the first post, you do need to remove the monitor to get this price.

The Vostro 400 was excellent value for money
I got one my self and the speed and difference is great compared
to what i had before.

Also they delivered in 4 days and i have had not problems at all!

Just waiting for my new graphics card to arrive and i should be away!!

Any news on a possible repeat of the vostro 400 deal? It's absolutely perfect for me!

There is also 5% cashback for Dell at Cashback Kings and Quidco.

1 gig and shared graphics memory?
I'd pay to watch this one run Vista........

how sad

Looking back at it now i should have gone for that 400 too. Only wanted to spend under £200 as a 2nd pc but i guess i could have sold the extras that came with it.

As for this pc i think a simillar spec was posted a while back for around the same prices, they seem to come up every so often. Guess i wait and hope a simillar 400 deal comes up again.

great price MikeT, For those wishing to upgrade the basic setup (ram, cpu, hdd or DVDRW etc) its actually cheaper on the dell business website as they have 10% off certain upgrades

At this price its in the "impulse buy" realm so I pointed it at the Home site as its easier for members to cancel an order there, but if your sure its what you want then by all means use the Small business site.

Can I just ask how the guarantee works if you buy a Dell Business pc/laptop? If it breaks down do they ask questions about what business you registered it to and so on, or do they more or less act the same as if it was a home pc?

Usually the waranty on business site kit is better as its next business day on site rather than return for repair.
Dell dont care who orders from business, just be sure to put your own name when asked for a business name and state its for home use.

My old system has finally clapped out and looking for a new one. Budget of around £300
Mainly use my computer for internet, courework and some online games(such as WOW etc..)
No need for a monitor.

If upgraded to

Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core processor E2200 (2.20GHz, 800MHz, 1MB cache)
Windows Vista™ Home Premium with Service Pack 1, 32-bit - English
Monitor No 17" Wide Monitor
Additional Monitor Not included
Memory 1024MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x512]
Hard Drive 250GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst™ cache
Video Card 128MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 2400 Pro graphics card
Optical Devices 48x CDRW/DVD Combo Drive

all that i think comes to £256.22 inc VAT.Shipping (I'll purchase some extra RAM on another website)

Would it be worth purchasing that or waiting for another deal similar to the previous Vostro 400 Mike posted earlier ?
Hoping not to wait too long.
Thanx in advance

Well the onboard graphics will leech system RAM.......the eye-candy Aero interface will mean probably a quarter of your memory is gone straightaway meaning you're trying to run Vista on 768mb.
Fire up an Excel spreadsheet with vlookups or links to other data sources and you'll lock the machine up every time.
Just my 2 Euros worth.....

I wouldn't bother with their 2400 Pro graphics upgrade for £47 - that's way overpriced.

Instead, I'd get a much better 8600GT, e.g. ]£46 delivered here* or 8600GTS, e.g. ]£51 delivered here* (latter, PSU permitting) for around the same money.

Welcome to HUKD Filzzy1.0

*They may be Super Specials prices so likely to change, but they're available for similar prices on other websites so you don't have to buy from them

do you have to make any modifications if you were to put an 8800gt in this machine

Yes, most probably a PSU upgrade (purchased from elsewhere) at cost ~£50 extra.

If it comes with a 350w (or greater) PSU & a 6-pin PCI-E power connector, you may get away with no changes.
