Nice find.

I'm still holding out for another £99 Dell Desktop/Server base unit deal to come

The deal on this desktop just gets better! Thanks Mike.

nice price...

Would I be able to plug my virgin media modem straight into this computer?

Would I be able to plug my virgin media modem straight into this computer?

Yes

Thanks, I'll have one then!

nice find but im holding back for quad core and 4096 memory to come down to this price!

the computer market have somewhat slowed the pace down regarding offering newer and newer products and offers.

we seem to be stuck on dual core and 2048mb for a lifetime!

get a move on dell and others!

keep up the good work MikeT

Why would you not be able to? You could use USB or ethernet.

remove the anti virus trial and you save 1p

£234.59

every little helps lol

Voted hot as it's a good deal for a Core Duo.

However, I too am waiting for a Qaud core... you know it's the way to go. Blistering speed!
Come on guys, bring you prices down on these mother of a processor otherwise I will just have to buy my own motherboard and CPU and build it myself.

seems a decent deal.

how do you use quidco with this?

it's not a core duo, it's a dual core, big difference.

This CPU is a very easy to overclock, I have one running @ 3.75Ghz and well within it's voltage limit but I don't know how easy it is to get into the Dell bios to do this, see link for CPU OC

great deal well spotted

Currently all desktops and laptops in my office are using XP so this would be my first Vista machine.

Anyone have any comments on upgrading to Vista Business for an extra £30? I think the backup and remote access functionality would be useful, or should I just stick with the Basic OS and use third party applications for backing up etc?

It's based on the Core 2 Duo Wolfdale series (so E7xxx series, I think). Big difference.

It's a very good chip and a great overclocker thanks to the high multiplier and low FSB. A lot of people report it will go to 3.2 with the stock cooler.

how upgradable is the graphics on this pc?

It's an E5200 so it is only dual core.

It's a Wolfdale chip, which is a Core 2 Duo chip. The slight difference is that it has less L2 cache.

Look at how the chip is actually built and not what is written on the packaging.

Um, Core Duo processors do have dual cores, as do Core 2 Duos.

What's more, this chip is a reduced-cache Core 2 Duo.

What do you mean "only dual core" ?
Intel make lots of dual core processors !

This E5200 is a Core 2 Duo, with reduced-cache. It still has dual cores.

i think i might go for one of these.....looks decent enough to me.
im really no pc buff though tbh...is this Dell internet ready?im not bothered about wireless as long as it got an ethernet connection..

Do yo need a business address for this

Yes it is and pretty much any modern PC will have ethernet unless it has a very small form factor; I tihnk the Macbook Air lacks ethernet for example!

No, home users can also buy from the Small Business site but your consumer rights are diffferent in that you don't get the 7 day cooling off period for on-line purchases.

Thanks alot for that

PLEASE STOP posting PC deals Mike, I've only just got my Tesco Dell PC and I'd like to think I got a bargain for just a little bit longer!! :-D

I'm after a dell pc as a basic home pc.
Should i hold out for a few weeks to see if a cheaper deal turns up? Or is this as good as it gets?
Someone mentioned a £99 base.

You have to be sure what you mean by "basic home PC". If you are SURE you wont use it for anything else (ie. photoshop, video edits etc) then Im sure you can get a better deal buying their most budget sepc PC which would most probably come with a monitor for less than this?!?!?

Cheers for the reply

Basic as in running office and surfing he web.
I do prefer their business machines as they have less bloatware. If they have home deals i'd consider that too.

I forgot to mention i don't require a monitor.

If thats the case I'd definitely say that this is a worthy option to consider. The features are probably more than you will ever need but allow for a bit of futureproofing, however, they are also pretty much on the "standard kit" end so you may struggle to find anything substantially cheaper?!?! MikeT generally seems to post great deals, I'd just google "cheap desktop PC" and see whats around from similar respected suppliers

Is the Motherboard in this PCE-E 2.0 complainant?

If it is this would be a nince house for my spare 8800GT

frakison,

I think this deal, is quality at a cheap price. Where as googling cheap desktop pc, gives rise to throwaway cheapies like peeceeworld.

Do deals like this expire very quickly?

thanks

It uses the Intel G45 Express Chipset which supports PCIe 2.0 - intel.com/pro…htm
Dell Specs - www1.euro.dell.com/con…bsd
I don't think it matters either way at this point though.

I'd tend to agree but remember that Dell's aren't sometimes that great either, mine very good for the price but its a lot more "clunky" (drives etc) than the one I built myself (although that cost about 4x as much!!). You get what you pay for but I think these are great budget machines and you wont go far wrong if you were to buy one

Frakison,

I've got a dell biz machine. Found it through probably one of Mike T's deals on here. Admittedly it cost 3 times as much without a monitor. The monitor i subsequently found on site again and its a great machine.

This machines for my mum, so its not going to be used heavily - however i think it will do for a good couple of years. I think i'll snap one up. Cheers

Are you sure she's not going to want to play Crysis?!?!?

I bought two Vostro 400 desktops for my parents in the past and have generally been happy with them. I was surprised how power efficient they are and how reasonably quiet they are although I replaced the fans to make them very quiet even under load.
