Ive ordered from Dell Business many times before. No checks or anything. Put your name down as company name.

The only difference is that you might not be covered under DSR if buying as an individual from a business site; anybody know?

Yep I had that problem a few years ago not been able to return a laptop when bought through Business (with Insight) tbh not sure if it's still the case but expect so.

Dell usually charge a fee of £20 to collect it. Always best to use their courier incase of damage. Not sure if price has increased.

Definitely lose DSR when buying from business site, only returnable if faulty...but you do get the bonus of the business warranty so they'll fix anything and everything free of charge usually on site next business day, really can't fault that service at all.

isnt this ex vat price? its a net book not a laptop...

Banned

not too bothered about that too much, I imagine you can ebay this for ~£250 net extremely easily, if you change mind.

I just spent some time reading reviews and have 3 concerns : fan noise, battery life and keyboard.

but then there's the price...decisions...

Netbook is usually up to 11.6" screen with puny CPU.

Good one
No backlit keys?

I'd buy one with a 1300 spin speed. Slower ones tend to leave the clothes a bit damp.

Sounds like you need a Latitude!

you can also trade-in an old laptop and get £50 cashback

I noticed that but couldn't see any details.

Definitely not covered by DSR have experience of this with dell, screen packed up too within three months on a vostro and was a nightmare getting them out to fix it despite the business warranty. They also choose to ignore emails when they feel like it, would never buy dell again. I thought Acer customer services sucked but at least they speak English unlike the chimps dell have in support.

"Age restrictions apply to IT equipment traded in"

Doesn't say what the restrictions are.

To be fair it hasn't got an optical drive which would be my definition of a netbook...

Ordered :-)

Thanks OP

Guessing this is a mistake as it's never a £117 upgrade for a 500Gb hard drive...wouldn't hang around with this purchase

In summary almost any (laptop) can be traded in if its less than 5 years old and works (e.g. battery must hold charge for 20mins).

By that definition Apple don't make laptops and a PC without a DVD drive which is 1mm bigger than the Ultrabook spec is a Netbook even though it could have an i7,15.6" 1080P TFT and a 256GB SSD. Or are Ultrabooks without a DVD drive also Netbooks?

I have one of these machines, but the i5 with 8gb ram.

Added my own Samsung 830 SSD (requires the machine to be fully disassembled). Also had msata slot but it won't boot from it!! Brought a Intel 525 msata SSD and was gutted about this feature not working without a hack and primary hdd.

Machine is super light.

Dell confirmed, no back lit keyboard is available...

It's more like an ultra book... I would recommend!

Sorry to be ignorant, but what is DSR? Is it Dell system restore? Does this mean that it can't be restored to factory settings or am I completely misunderstanding?

Your definition is out of date then.

Some reviews:
notebookcheck.net/Rev…tml
pcpro.co.uk/rev…360
tlbhd.com/del…12/

Most of them say that it is a decent buy (but that was last year, when it was released, and at a higher price point, but with an i5). The screen and poor battery life seem to be the main negatives - but at this price point, I think those points can be forgiven.

Edit: Sod it, ordered one. Been looking for a good deal for a year now... I think the price reflects the imminent launch f the the next-gen i3 processors... I hope they don't drop any further!! By the way, does anyone know how long delivery takes?

Then your definition is incorrect. Small but high spec (compared to sluggish netbooks) laptops like this fit in a class known as 'ultraportable'.

uhm, Intel's strategy is to release more expensive products first. Good luck if you're waiting for laptops with Haswell i3 mobile. Might as well be Q4, most likely Q3 compared to the main launch just few days from now.

Dell have moved to mainly prebuilt systems for consumer systems so 2 business days is common. They seem to use UPS and if they have stock they generally deliver.
