Following on from david1274's recent deal but for an extra £30 for those that want a bigger screen and better graphics card thought it deserved a separate post.

Same deal posted a week ago by TehJumpingJawa for a bit cheaper(now expired) but the best you can get at the minute.

Same principle to boost this system over the 679 threshold simply upgrade warranty to pro support.

Basic configuration price : £679
1-Year Warranty: +£10
Discount coupon code: -£70
Intrinsic discount: -£110
Total pre-VAT cost: £509
VAT: +£89.08
Total cost: £598.08 (delivery is currently free for all fast-track configurations)

The coupon code for the £70 discount is: BC1G2JZ51V04M0 (configurations >£679.00 only)

Don't forget quidco too!
Dell Small/Medium Business gives 7% cashback. ( quidco.com/del…?ac ) though it's on the pre-VAT amount only.

Both the £110 discount and £70 vouchers expires at midnight on 14/09/10!

Another 1?! LOL

Given it's similarities (in more than just the product (_;) ) to the deal from 2 weeks ago, I guess it's got to be a Hot!

its a shame £600 laptops aren't including bluray drives.

Imitation is the best form of flattery!!! X)

Although the spec is better than the 15" (better card and bigger screen), the 17.3" would probably be a bit too cumbersome for me- even for home use. Still voted hot.

The 15" deal is still active until end of tomorrow.

Does anyone know why Dell is only offering 32 Bit Windows with Vostro Laptops, even when they have 4GB RAM? (I know this model doesn't have 4GB, before somebody kindly points this out) It seems a bit dumb to me.

Before anyone replies "Why don't you ask Dell?" I've tried before, but usually get a stupid answer like "It comes with 32 bit Windows", which is a really pointless answer, but typical of brain dead call centre staff.

Because a lot businesses may use older device drivers not compatible with 64 bit windows.

or indeed software. More likely software

It's because their customers (ie businesses) generally prefer 32 bit systems for the reasons piratematt gave. You can, of course, buy a 64-bit Vostro by clicking on the 'custom' link but they are a good bit more expensive.

Sorry, am i missing something.

Just gone to order and noticed dell business is only 5% on Vostro's. Is there a mistake on the listing or does it track anyway at 7% to 10%?

While I'm at it, does anyone know what colour you get or how you specify colour? The website is vague to say the least:

"Aberdeen Silver, Lucerne Red, Brisbane Bronze (Color offerings vary by regions)"

I ask because the bronze is shocking and Brisbane can keep it!

You can't choose on the Fast-Track, your stuck with silver.

whats 1600*900 res screens like for watching HD content vs standard 15 inch screens of 1366*768?
does the amount of stretching mean its worse on the higher res?
obviously a better desktop area but was just wondering for media^^

In my experience higher res. is always better.

The software & hardware in a PC do a far better job of pixel interpolation that the likes of almost all HDTVs.

Can't use the £70 code. Anyone tried successfully?

It works fine (don't forget to add the additional 1 year pro support for £10) this will take it over the threshold so you can apply the voucher code.

I was very tempted to buy then chickened out

I am on the fence too seems a lot of money but is a very good spec not sure if the 17 might be too bit oh well will have to make my mind up before tonight do these deals come along very often also thought this might be hotter by now
Anyhow thanks poster

surprised this isnt getting much more interest...

Probably because they regularly take £100+ off fast track models and have £50-70 vouchers available- so nothing really out of the ordinary here. The identical deal posted a couple of weeks ago, cost only £580 with 3-year warranty instead of a 1-year one.

I think I will leave it and keep my eye out thanks anyway poster

I can see your reasoning, but surely that decision is for the customer to make. Has Dell actually said that? Other Dell laptops offer either 32 bit or 64 bit Windows, if fact my own Vostro laptop which I purchased not 6 months ago had exactly that option, and I chose the 64 bit. The versions both cost the same so I'm still baffled as to why only one option is offered at the moment.

Any comments on the "fingerprint reader" and "Facial Recognition software"., how do they work, eg if several people want to use the laptop?
Thanks.

Fingerprint reader is not 100%, I used my index finger on somebody elses laptop and it let me in without me ever using it previously!
Facial recognition is no good either as you can hold a photograph upto the webcam :P

Anyone seen any similar current i5 deals?
