Obviously you can mix and match what you want to get to the £299 mark after the dvd drive, for example a card reader on it's own would make this £269 delivered.

I would add the 128mb graphics card. Not the other stuff. £304 delivered -quidco.

Is it just me, or is this a really good deal? Maybe its too early in my day to figure it out :P

well done emasu... can't believe that's a 15 year old whizkid who's posting that... Double kudos for that.

You don't have to be old to be intelligent or good on computers. Another example of what's wrong with society. If you try teaching them you'll see that the more trust you are able to give them the better they do.

I might be wrong, but I've read that Dell use 300 Watt power supplies in most of their systems, but a 350 Watt in some of the more high end models. I just bought a Vostro 400 with an 8800GT and it came with a 350 Watt power supply. It might be worth bearing in mind if you're gonna buy this and get the 8800 elsewhere, just in case the 300 Watt PSU isn't up to the job.

The DVD writers that Dell use aren't the best. They're made by PBDS whoever they are and they don't support bitsetting. I upgraded my Vostro 400 with an Optiarc AD-7200S for £15. Overall I am extremely pleased with the system though and it's very quiet.

this is coming up at 347.87

The price should be £231 before VAT?

[QUOTE=faevilangel;1977881]its coming up at 215 before vat and shipping, final price is 312.62

It's £231 before V.A.T. is added and £271.43 once it's in the basket with tax added. You get free shipping, even though it says that the system has to cost over £299 to qualify. Make sure that you select the DVD writer, the EX110 cordless keyboard/mouse set and the speakers. The speakers are on the accessories page.

If you do not want the EX110 and the 2.0 speakers and DVD x 16 drive

you could add the
Dell™ A525 Speakers with Subwoofer UK/Irish [add £20.00]

and then take it to check out to total out at £269.08

Please excuse my ignorance but is this deal a good one for someone who just wants a new home desktopfor all basic stuff and without a screen, I'm not sure if vista for business is suitable for personal use only - any advice for a technophone greatfully accepted.

Dell's site hasn't worked through Mozilla Firefox for about a week for me now! Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this? It used to work fine.... :x

According to the info on MikeT's blog, Vista Business includes downgrade rights to XP Professional. I'm not sure how it works exactly, but he can explain it to you I'm sure. There's no reason why you couldn't use Vista Business at home though, because it's pretty much the same as the Home Basic edition except it doesn't have parental controls and it adds a few extra networking features.

I've just ordered one but I added the 16x DVD+/-RW & 16x DVD Drives and totalled out at £274.95.

I am using this computer now, i got it last time around. Very happy with it.

I got the Logitech Cordless Desktop EX110 and although its good, i have to say the mouse munches the s*** out of batteries, lucky i use rechargies!

No problems for me with FF 2.0.0.14. I go through Quidco and everything tracks and the Dell site is fine.

How do you tell what wattage of PSU you get? Would a 128MB card get you a 350W?

They only list 300W if you go to this link and click on Tech Specs.
A 300W power supply should easily handle an 8800 GT in a Vostro 400 if using an E4500. I tested my parents’ Vostro 400 E4500 system and it consumed ~72W DC with both cores at 100% load. An 8800 GT will add 100W DC maximum to this figure.

The one I had delivered last week has a 350 Watt PSU in it.

I am interested in this offer, and was wondering if it was better (and cheaper) to add the graphics card as an aftermarket product? Because a 512mb ATI Radeon XT graphics card was £50 online and Dell do the 256mb version for £95.

There should be no compatibility issues right?

another point, i just tried a mock build online and the £70 off has disappeared and now im only getting the free delivery discount. even though my setup is identical and its worth over £299.

Has it partially expired?
