mike whats happened to all the vostro 1500 (now 1510) etc deals that we had this time last year?

The specs look similar to the Dell netbook that Tesco sells (for less) -

direct.tesco.com/q/R…spx

Are they one and the same (apart from the name)?

edit - The Tesco one is with Ubuntu

What mumbojumbo said ;-) ^^

Voted hot: I always like MikeT's deals. :-D

The following Lenovo S10 seems a better deal to me.....

]http//ww…ID=

actually I'll take that back. It's cheaper at dabs when factoring in delivery.

]http//ww…hd/

10" screen, 160GB HD, built in camera...

The Mini 9 versions look better value to me, but if this spec is exactly what you want it's a decent deal.

NC10 smacks this for a few more bob I'm afraid.

A proper laptop smacks the NC10 for the same sort of money I'm afraid. Don't you lot get fed up of posting that on all netbook threads give it up no one cares.I paid £185 for the mini from tesco and it took me 30minutes to put xp on so this is a bit rich dells customer service is poor so would rather take it straight back to tesco.:x

No it doesn't. A proper laptop does not weigh a kilogram. A proper laptop does not have 7 hour battery life. That's the whole point of netbooks.

Link to proper laptop for same sort of money as NC10 that smacks it please. Portability, reliability, battery life - you choose the criterion to smack.

Also how much did you pay for XP to put on the mini from Tesco? Froogle suggest that you won't get much change from £50 for an OEM version unless you want to risk eBay. I suppose if you are quick, you can still download Win7 today if you can live with its shortcomings.

Sorry (if I come across rude/ignorant) but isn't the Acer Aspire One deal a better offering?

My NC10 has been on for 25 days now, without a reboot, and the wireless connection hasn't even reconnected. Overheating is an unknown term to this machine. I can't recommend the NC10 enough. For about £20-25 more, you can get 160GB HDD, 7 hour battery, 1.3 mega pixel camera, better build quality, 10" screen, better keyboard, better design (relative). So I'm going to vote this warm.

'Proper' laptops can and do have 7 hour battery life, some have more.

'Proper' laptops with more than 7 hour battery life don't weight 1kg and are in no way in the same price range as a Samsung NC10. Apples to apples please...

I think something like ]this ought to be vaguely comparable and have plenty of fans too?

The problem with "low priced" items is that any "upgrade" to a better machine while low in £ terms is high in % terms. Is a NC10 worth nearly twice as much as the Aspire One deal? Open to debate. Is the NC10 worth going for rather than this - probably

Bottom of page:
Macbook Air starting at £1,271...

I would buy the Acer Aspire One for £150. But not everyone can as it depends on the stock in your asda. Mine (Cambridge) has been out of stock for over a week, so I don't have that option :-(

I agree completely agree. A good price for what it is, so won't be voting cold, but well worth finding the extra few quid for the reasons above.

there are a few people who make ssds up to 128gb for the inspiron mini 9/ vostro a90 including runcore.
I bought a 8gb sd card (class 6) for under a tenner and it's really fast.
i figure in about a year i'll buy a 256gb runcore ssd for my mini 9 (should cost about a ton) and it'll be superfast with a massive hd.
in the meantime i hope this helps:

If weight was the issue and not battery life then you can have your apple, so Granny Smith to you

That said there are some 'propers' not a million miles off that weight.

Apples to apples, the OP did not make claims to price, only made a statement that included something that is not true.

You said 'No it doesn't. A proper laptop does not weigh a kilogram. A proper laptop does not have 7 hour battery life. That's the whole point of netbooks.'

The whole point of netbooks might be the weight, however you can get a 'proper' laptop a lot lighter than you average PC world breeze block..

They whole point of netbooks are not battery life as many are rubbish, on this occasion thats not the case but to claim a 'proper' laptop does not have long battery life is just not true.

My simple point in the first instance! :whistling:

Battery life is vital when you're on the move so that invalidates your whole post.

Don't buy a Dell. They are closing their Irish manufacturing plant and making 1900 people redundant ( up to 6000 when all the downstream jobs are factored in). They are moving the manufacturing to Poland

Maybe because labour is cheaper in Poland. I don't see anything wrong with that. Dell as a business is trying to cut costs in these tough times, or do you want to pay for the losses?

The last Dell I purchased (XPS1530) had to go back, big bulge in the middle of the keyboard, badly routed cables apparently. Despite having next business day support they wanted me to take it to pieces !!

So called premium product, what a joke, must have been assembled and quality inspected by chimps. So perhaps moving production to Poland will improve build/assembly quality.

And that reply shows you can't read or understand and see past a netbook, i'm not saying they are not good, I'm not saying battery life is not important but seems I cant spell it out!
