This won’t be a deal for everyone but I’ve been after a decent price for the XPS 13 base model with the matte screen. The main reason to go for this is the battery life is claimed about 22 hours plus the new quad core CPU. Also I’ve been having real issues with glare using a lot of glossy displays at university (sunlight and strong false light) so wanted a decent matte laptop for windows and Ubuntu. There was a deal on cyber Monday but it still worked out more then this and you had to pay all at once. This also has an SD card slot and upgradable SSD so storage less of an issue then on new MacBook Pros.

Very are doing 20% cashback on all windows laptops they sell if you use the BNPL using code MFKTR.

I'm waiting for Ryzen version. Expecting Dell to introduce them at CES next Jan. Ryzen 5 2500U have same cpu performance as i5 8250U but with better GPU.

Wait for an 8th gen with an NVIDIA MX150....there’s already been a deal on here for around £600 (I forget the exact figure and make...sorry) so won’t be long before there’s another deal.

Yes...nvidia and ryzen sound good ,but will they make a huge difference

Ultrabook with 8250u and MX150 would be my choice too, though I can't justify buying one.

Was it the Acer coming from America or the Xiaomi coming from China that you are thinking of?

Good price, I've had a number of ultrabooks but have just settled on the macbook air, I know the screen may be bad compared to others but for my purpose it's fine. I love how the mac just works out the box without gliches you normally find on windows machine and the interface is sssooo smooth.

The T&C state the 20% can not be used on sale items, isn't this already on sale?

It’s under the offer on all windows laptops by using their link direct. It accepted the code fine so can’t see being and issue. Only ordered last night. So won’t have confirmation yet but the code changed everything and it’s the same deal as they did on Apple products. Think price reduced not the same as sale because it worked for all those buying the Apple MacBook Air or pro that had price reductions too.

Agreed but I have the Mibook Air 13. Any GPU even the MX150 will effect battery life. Reason to buy this for me is because it doesn’t have a dedicated GPU, has matte screen but quad core CPU. In short it is a perfect laptop for those not needing GPUs but needing long battery and quad core for VMware etc.

I’m mainly a Mac user and nearly bought the air on last vey deal but the CPU in this is better then anything until you get to the 15 inch versions of MacBook but with battery life as good as an Air due to lower resolution screen (not as low as Air but not far off). Agree with all your points though as prefer Mac OS but running Linux dual boot of MacBook is a pain (I need it for university now).

How does their buy now pay later work? I don’t fancy paying nearly 40% APR and it says 20% back as credit?

Doesn't nvidia optimus turn off dedicated graphics and switch to Intel integrated graphics? It shouldn't be taking up much battery. Without gaming my gaming laptop lasts 8 hours on a full charge.

This isn't the 90s anymore, most laptops just work out of the box.

In my experience with the 940MX it’s not that effective. I get about 3-4 hours on my Mibook Air at 50% brightness. Obviously that doesn’t have a massive battery but wish you could manually choose like you can in Linux. You can manually select per application but be nice to just switch as in Ubuntu. You get less battery in Linux but I actually get more because I can manually use only the Intel GPU.

It’s 0% for 12 months that you can pay off at any point. I’d never buy anything like this that they charge interest on...why I don’t buy from Currys etc. Very credit the amount back to your account after a month or two so it comes direct off the amount owned. Just make sure you wait until that happens before paying it off. Also make sure you pay the postage (£3.99) in the first month (which they do email to let you know) or you’re breaking the conditions and will pay interest. Don’t like that but at least they inform you several times.

I bought this same laptop on the dell doorbuster sale a couple of weeks back (was just under £900) Its really nice imo. Love the size/weight of it and the screen. Battery life seems good, not sure about 22 hours?? I haven't actually tested it but i'd be surprised if any laptop lasted that long

Just remember you don't get many connections on these, so you will need a hub if you want hdmi out, network connection etc. I went for one of these amazon.co.uk/dp/…tem which was on sale for £28.99 , unfortunately it's gone up again now. A few comments mentioned some connections on the hub didnt work for them but they all seem fine for me.

Really portable and you can easily play games like Rocket League with acceptable settings if that's your thing.

Good to know. The 22 hours is from Dell. Tbf laptop mag got 16 hours on it constantly using Wi-fi and web so it’s going to be good regardless!

IIt's probably more to do with the battery size. Plenty of laptops last all day with 45w CPU and dedicated 1050 GPU or higher.

It depends what your looking to do really. It has a better processor but worst battery life and glossy vs matte screen. If you’re into content creation then maybe. Having said that when started going that route I’d be tempted by the HP Envy models that have full Thunderbolt 3 and mx150. I personally feel you’re losing the main advantage of the XPS in terms of battery on the 4K. Having said that the XPS 4K still has better battery then HPs but your getting into desktop replacement territory at that price. In short....not for me but there is definitely a use case for it.

Ordered! Went for the i5 FHD. Mainly university work and the occasional CAD drawing doesn't warrant the nearly halving the battery life.
Order still says full price though. I believe it said discount will be applied later on is this correct?

Might be worth noting TopCasback is available. Tracked at £19 for anyone interested!

You get the 20% back after about a month generally. As long as you took out BNPL.

I got an i7 version with 16gb of ram and 512gb ssd from Dell for 1150. Had to return it a couple days back. Poorly built, screen is wobbly, enormous coil whine. It even used to zap me when connected to AC. I've tried Dell, never again Their custom service is the worst.

My work laptop is a dell, it works well and is completely silent, keyboard is also great. Hasn't broke yet even though my dog jumps all over it when he wants attention and i'm working.

Received mine this morning. Absolutely spot on. Only thing i don’t like is the design around screen catches dust. Not a major issue but had to use a soft plastic sucker to remove/push down the dust

So a few hours later...
Love how easy BIOS is to customise. I setup windows out the box and it had a BIOS update found by the Dell driver. Once that done I went into BIOS and change to Legacy.
This laptop supports both NVME and normal SATA M2 drives. Pulled out the nvme m2 drive and put in a M2 512GB drive (slower but still fast enough). You need torx 5 and 0 Philips and it is really easy to swap SSD for bigger size. Did a clean install of windows in legacy mode. Lots of noise from coil during fresh install (was worried) but on installing all the drivers it is now virtually silent on operation (so don't worry).
I then installed Ubuntu dual boot. Ubuntu was fully supported (as you would expect from XPS) including wifi. Getting quoted between 9-12 1/2 hours battery on mid brightness in Ubuntu (which is mental as battery always worst in Ubuntu then windows)
Ran Geekbench...scores are single 4093 and multi 14042. Even despite it being turbo boost this is insane from a 15watt CPU! It is outperforming my 2012 iMac i7 max spec (13831). and close to my MacBook Pro and even i7 Haswell full desktop CPUs (14652 and 14772).
Finally even running geekbench was virtually silent and the projected battery life is insane! 18hours and 41 minutes at full charge and mid brightness of windows 10 whilst typing this!

Haha. That’s probably a weird one. Along with the trapped hair I had! Using that didn’t damage screen you see and now can’t see them! Also importantly it can run football manager 2018 on medium settings comfortably (the same as my 940mx) and after an hour it’s still hardly touched the battery...possibly the ultimate football manager computer with this battery life! It won’t sway me totally from Mac as love Mac OS but as a work machine for both reading articles and writing thesis and for Linux and code learning it is ideal with massive battery life and matte screen...football manager just an added bonus...I was a bit worried as always negative comments on Dell XPS threads but mine seems fine...one of the reasons I buy Mac used to be quality control and easy of returns or repairs...thanks for the nice comments! Rare on here!

Sort for late reply. Looks good to me. The main differences are usually the build is plastic vs metal but they are still very solid machines...I think some are even metal now but just not quite as compact...
