Can't speak on a refurb (or the i5 model) but I have the i7 and it is absolutely incredible! Fastest thing I've ever used

It's an i5 with 4 hyper thread and 4 cores. CPU benchmark suggested 8500 which is pretty nippy. I'm updating the WiFi to WiFi 6, swop the ram for 16gb duel channel and sticking in a 500 GB WD black which runs a read rate of 3200 ish. I will use the SSD elsewhere and sell the other bits. It should fly. Do you know if you're better off with duel ram at 2400 or single ram at 2666. Can't get duel at 2666. Want two 8gb sticks. can get two 16gb duel at 2666 just seems over kill.
The 4K screen makes these is a lot better if you can find one at a good price. I couldn't go back to FHD laptop now.

I have the 13 inch 4K one with touch and would swap for a FHD laptop in a heartbeat. 4K and Windows 10 is simply useless.
I have this exact model. It's a really nice laptop on the whole. My brief review:

- Build quality is excellent
- Port selection is decent though could maybe do with one more USB-A port
- Nice/big/accurate touch pad
- Keyboard feels nice though I wish the return and arrow keys were bigger
- Unfortunately it has a nose cam, but that doesn't bother me as I don't use it
- The screen produces a nice quality, bright image, though there is some back-light bleed (not uncommon with IPS panels, bit of a lottery) and I miss having a touchscreen
- Performance has been great, though I doubled the RAM (got 2 x 8GB Crucial 2400MHz CL17 modules) for about £65, popped in a Silicon Power 512GB m.2 NVME SSD for £62 (getting 3.2GB/s and 2.1GB/s sequential reads and writes) and put in a new dual-band Intel wireless card
- Upgrading is ridiculously easy, you only need a Torx T5 and Phillips head screwdriver
- This model has the smaller 56Wh battery, which isn't amazing but fine for my needs
- It's pretty light for a solid 15" laptop of this quality, though I did remove the 2.5" HDD which removes a bit of weight
- Perhaps the most impressive thing about this laptop vs most others I've had is just how quiet it is, even under load

SUMMARY: it's a solid laptop in pretty much every way, though without any fancy features (no touchscreen, no 180 degree hinge, plastic chassis) and only a few minor shortcomings.

I also have the 13inch 4k touch, 7370 and don't have any issues with Windows 10. The battery life seems to be a bit average, but still 5-7hrs and the screen is beautiful. I wasn't interested in the touchscreen, but now I have it, I find it quite handy, particularly when zooming into pictures.

Maybe it depends on the applications you run. I had a few which didn't scale properly when I first got it a few years ago but they have all been fixed since.

I never use the touch screen however.

Why is it useless with windows 10 ?

Scaling issues are the main problem, the "fix" which took ages to come out still does not work with all programs.
If you plan to use an external monitor then be prepared for constant glitches.
Outlook was a pain too with my 4k resolution too (not sure if there has been a fix to this).
It is even an effort to get 4k wallpapers from windows.

I'm using 15.6" 4k since 2016. Faced little issues with certain UI portion of a specific IDE due to *IDE's* design . And streaming 1080p (atleast youtube) was not looking that nice as on native 1080p. and then battery. Still i cant go back to FHD.

I have the 4k 9550 i7 16gb ram with 512gb Samsung Evo and 1tb hdd. It is by far and away the best laptop i’ve owned or used. Even though it’s only got a 960m it plays GTA V flawlessly.

I’d love the 9570 with 4k screen and 1050Ti but i’ve never seen one in the outlet with a 3 cell battery so I can have both drives installed. It seems you can only get the 3 cell with the 1080p screen model. The 6 cell takes away the hdd bay.
Thanks, bought!

Anyone used an eGPU with the XPS15? Seems to work ok from reviews/articles despite the 2 channel limitations on the TB3 port.
Ok great - yes worked for me, fingers crossed Quidco tracks and I get £75 back

According to the review on this model it has 4. See above review
I bought this brand new when it was on offer. But returned it because I had problems with it going to sleep (it doesnt go to sleep properly or wakes itself up). It's a windows 10 modern standby issue. There has been a few times where I took it out of the laptop case and the fans were on loud and it was very hot, even though I put it into sleep before storing it away.

Previously there was a unofficial fix by enabling s3 sleep via bios (deep sleep), but Dell removed it in a bios update because there's a bug which causes a drain with usb devices. You can reenable this via the windows registry but will face the bugs.

Maybe I just had a bad batch. Hopefully you guys wont experience the same issue.

Yeah sorry I was referring to the older models although knowing this has 4 channels is another benefit of upgrading to this one at some point with a TB3 dock.

It's actually 4 core/ 8 thread. It's an optimised rebrand of the i7 7700HQ
How nosiy is the fan? I'm using macbook Pro 15 loaded with Windows 10. The most quiet windows i7 laptop I ever owned. Buts it's 2014 model. I have owned more than 10 laptops in the last 10 years but always kept the macbook. Is there any alternative? Maybe huawei x Pro? Love the 4:3 ratio screen too.

You buy a macbook to run windows? Do you not use osx? If you do check out a parallels

One thing about macbooks is they hold there value really well
So so tempted but think I’ll be strong andwait to see how the 2019 model fares (rumoured to be released in the US this Monday ). Fantastic deal though, OP
Bought one of these last year - incredible laptop. Fast, well built and a joy to use.

I used it with an eGPU and QHD monitor as my main PC, but the GTX1050 was great for gaming on the go when I was away on business.

You'll want to replace the SSD with a larger drive though.

The only issue I find is connecting to old Remote Desktop sessions etc
We have both 4k and 1080 of these at work and the 1080 is preferred, mainly because it has a matte screen and in an office environment the touch isn’t used much. Also if you get the models with just the one data drive you tend to have the bigger battery so worth looking at the specs and tailor towards your needs

Windows on a Macbook is stunning and parallels is not comparable. Bootcamp is the way to go so dual boot OSX and Windows

The XPS15 is supposedly one of the best laptops for Hackintosh so in theory could dual boot Windows and OSX but it’s got far too complicated over the years for me to bother with compared to Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion which were easy to Hackintosh.

I contacted amex they said I appear to meet the criteria, we shall see, can take a while.
Why did this get so hot? This seems quite expensive for the specs and for the fact it is refurbished.

It doesn't even have the Ti version of the 1050 : /
