I have heard that it's what you do with it that counts...

LCD 13.3" not very big! :whistling:!

It’s a feature; smaller size, lower weight and easier portability. :whistling:

Where did you get this ecode?

Cracking screen...best I've had in a long time:)

Basically, I spotted last night that you can find a system on the Dell Business Site (which currently has free shipping on all laptops over £299) but are unable to use the 10% voucher there.

However, if you get the ecode from the machine you want from the Dell Business site, you can access it through Dell's Home website through the search function. That way you get the business spec machine with free delivery but can also add 10% voucher as it is a home order!

I posted the best basic XPS deals on the ]M1330 and ]M1530 earlier.

I see... strange that it gives free delivery, but the others in this range don't... thought you might have gotten it from a paper or magazine or something

What you mean others in this range dont?

You can grab any XPS laptop ecode from Dells small business site and use it on Dell's Home website through the search function. That way you get free delivery and 10% off.

Cool loophole!

Quick question about Quidco, will it track properly if I select all the items that I am going to buy and put them in my basket first, just by using the site as normal, and then logging into quidco and paying, or do I have to start from scratch with quidco?

Ta

not sure...it is all about the cookies, I know when I wanted to be sure...I went from quidco to dell and built the system there and then.
Cracking deal btw..... heat added

right every one...here is the catch...i wanted to buy this laptop with 9 cell battery...total came to £714..went through checkout and then got asked where do i intend to use this laptop?...when i chose home (as i am home user ) the total went up to £764...changed to office and commercial use and the total came down to £714!!! the question is what are the implications if i choose to say commercial use eventhough i am a home user? i would appreciate a response (especially from MIKE T) as i want to buy this laptop soon as i dont think this loophole will last...i have already cancelled my order from 3 days ago for the same system but with lower specification and higher price.

You will loose the ability to return it cause you dont like the colour or some other minor complaint, no free returns on SB site, other than that its all good, better service usually as its normally dealt with on site next day. So normal dsr dont apply, just put your own name in the box asking for business name.

thank you mike t ...helpful as usual...actually i am glad that i cancelled my original order as it was for £698 (2GHz, LED screen, 9 cell battery, 128Mb Nvidia card)...now i can get the same laptop for £632+quidco...i am not bothered about small complaints as long as dell will deal with major ones...also i would like to confirm... is it legal to buy in this way (home user buying as business user)

Dell are quite happy to sell to individuals from the small business site, I have done so on occasion for a few years now. What they dont want are the buy it try it and return it customers.

another question please...is there any advantage in upgrading the hard drive from 5400 to 7200 drive? will i notice any difference? is it worth the £30?

I didn't get that option on this e-code...?

Up to 14% faster disc access so with anything that cant be cashed into memory it will make a difference, if you will notice is dependent on what your doing and really you would need to have 2 systems running alongside each other to test. The faster drive shouldnt use more battery either as has been suggested before. Most now have the same current draw as slower drives.
As to if its worth £30 extra, thats down to the individual really.

Well, the free delivery swayed me finally and I took the plunge! Went for the crimson red, LED display, 2Gb, T7500 and 160Gb 7200 HD in the end since I've never needed more than about 100Gb on my desktop and that's with all my music and games installed. Also got the bluetooth mouse and office professional which pushed the price up to the best part of a grand! :whistling: Oh well, atleast I got the 10% off those too.

Hi

This sounds like a great deal. I originally ordered one back in June when they first came out and waited ages. But In the end, 2 days ago, i ended up retuning my 4th replacement.

My Spec was:

Tuxedo Black, White-LED Display
T7500 2.2GHz Core2Duo, 2GB DDR SDRAM
200GB 7200RPM HDD, DVD+/-RW
NVidia 128MB GeForce 8400M GS, 6-Cell Battery
Intel Next-GenWireless-N, BlueTooth
Fingerprint
Windows Vista Ultimate
1 Yr XPS HW Sup
Ordered Jun07 - £1110.00

They all had different faults:

Laptop 1 - A01 MB, Dent in Palm Rest, Dead Pixel, Scratch on Keyboard ~ Key, Lose Charger Port
Laptop 2 - A04 MB, CPU Whine, Wobbly Base
Laptop 3 - A01 MB, Lose Hinge, 'Slight Intermitent' CPU Whine, and Wobbly Base
Laptop 4 - A04 MB, Lose Hinge, Lose Charger Port, CPU Whine.

I really loved the laptop and very tempted to order another one at this price. I hope i get a perfect one but if i don;t will i have the option to return it becuase of faults rather than i don't like the colour etc.

Moderator

bbasra, if its faulty then its up to the manufacturer to make amends be it Sb or Home, but with your track record they may well refuse your order ;-)

Can anyone comment on the CCFL Display (220nits) compared to the White-LED Display (300nits)?

i have just ordered but strange thing happened this time at checkout....i got the same price regardless if i choose home or business user so i choosed to go as home user to get more rights...the order confirmation showed next business day service.....also i noticed that i can add external modem to the order without price change so i did although i am not sure how useful it will be.

how did you get the 7200rpm option. I dont see it.

I had to use a different ecode to the one this deal refers to. 53 at the end instead of 55 I think but check the business site if that doesn't work. That code gives you the 160Gb 5400rpm as default, I upgraded it for £30. Also had to upgrade a few of the other items in the customise bit but it all worked out very near the same price as going for the more expensive starting package and not using any upgrades.

Would love to have tried out the solid state drive, but at £12.50 per Gig, it's a mighty price to pay!

Edit: nevermind.. i thought this was the M1530..

I ordered the exact same spec last week for 770 quid. Anyone know what Dell are like for either cancellations or lowering their price to match this week's offer? I tried calling them now but they're closed...

how long do these take to deliver?

Thanks mumbojumbo - I had a vostro 1400 on order but my brother has been so impressed by his 1330 this deal made it worthwhile investing a bit more money - sent off an e-mail to cancel the vostro order but will need to ring to confirm it on monday.

Hrobo77 - my brothers order took just over a week although they date they gave was two weeks from ordering.

very easy to cancel...i ordered xps 1330 last week but today and using this deal i managed to get the same specification for £70 cheaper...i phoned them to cancel..no questions asked ..took 2 minutes.

If you are spending over £700 on a laptop, what about the macbook?
Although it isnt much good for games due to the lack of dedicated graphics card, it is a great computer.
You can dual boot windows XP or Vista using boot camp, but quite likely you will be won over by leopard.
Adding 1gb of ram costs about £15 from play.com, or bring it up to 4gb for about £56.
I know the subject of apple computers tends to polarise opinion, but you shouldn't underestimate the benefit of losing all the virus, trojan and general crapware on a mac.

Distance selling regulations apply even if from business section as long as you the person buying it is acting as a consumer.

Where do you get the all drivers for xp and vista?

I wish you could get the 200GB 7200rpm on the N0113355. It should be there as it costs £50 more (ex 10% voucher) than the standard 250GB 5200rpm. Usually they don't include options only if the price would go down.

Also, what's going on in February? All the special offers on the Dell site end 30th Jan. Are the new Penryns coming out?

1st Feb is start of dells accounting year, so all these special deals are to get the sales up as high as possible for the current year. Expect to see higher pricing for at least a few weeks into Feb while they count the profits.

so do i! using other codes, it just doesn't work out cheaper than this one.

if you go over to notebookreview forums, the Penryns are due in Feb for Dell with whooping high prices i bet.

this is a bargain, i paid £1110 for the same spec back in june for this system.
