That's a lot of 'puter for the price

Hot

Would this PC be any good for games?

Nice !!

Nice review at a silly price (in the US).
I take it you can't add a graphics card later ? Or upgrade the memory ?
It doesn't look wall mountable either :-(

With onboard graphics i would not have thought so.

This certainly seems to be in the ballpark in terms of price that I'm looking to pay for a PC, however (and I don't know much about computers), should I be concerned that it will be hard to upgrade this computer to keep up with the times? For example, would I be able to put more RAM in it, etc?

unbelievable price drops - tempted to get one just cos they're so cheap.

As always with Dell though, they cock it up on the small stuff - these could never be gaming machines of any note.

If you are not looking to buy games there is no real reason you would need to upgrade for a good while going on the specs listed above.

That's a really good price. A similar specced iMac is £894.00 on the Apple web site BUT the mac does have a 2.4ghz processor. I'm not trying to start any fanboy wars by the way. Just highlighting my opinion of the value.

Looks like you can buy a wallmount adapter $54.95 + Shipping from US. xpsmount.com/ord…tml

If this had a ton of AV inputs, I would buy it as a HTTV.

Not a bad price for what it is, if you want a PC to do office tasks, surf the web and as a basic HTPC this looks a good deal.

It will struggle to play HD content though which needs either a meaty CPU or GPU neither of which this has,

Can the graphics be upgraded? It's just for games like sims 2

Looks ok, but weedy CPU and graphics card would put me off.
You can forget games and HD video.

The interior is accessible for upgrading the RAM and hard disk:thumbsup:

I know the 24" version can have blu-ray and has quad core. It's a shame it's not available in the UK yet.

The GMA X3100 integrated graphics aren't great, but not bad for an integrated chip. Portal runs on it just fine.

OK, final question from me...

For £400 are there any better PCs out there or is this as good as it gets?

This is a case of form over function.
Basically you could get a desktop or tower with better specs than this for similar money but it would not look as pretty and would take up more desk space.

hot stuff cheers matey

I am curious as too why would this pc be no good for Hd content? I thought the processor in this was a pretty good mid range processor. Is it the integrated graphics card that lets the whole pc down then?? If so surely this is a major concern for future proofing?

Out of interest would an equivalent Mac ( can you get a Mac at this price?) handle HD content a hell of alot better then?

With intel chips you need to look at the model number as well as the speed to gage its performance. The E4500 is now a fairly low spec CPU.

H264 and other HD content really needs either a mid to high end CPU or something like a 3870 or above GPU to take the decoding load "you can tweak your codecs to use either CPU or GPU decoding". As it stands this will not do much of a job at HDD decoding.

And no, you could not get a Mac at this price.

You can get much more computer for your four hundred quid, if you get a more conventional form-factor.

Something like the DELL Vostro 420 LMT configure.euro.dell.com/del…757 comes to £447.35 including VAT and delivery, and includes a Quad Core Processor, 19" Widescreen Display, Radeon HD 3650 Graphics etc. etc. - it'll cope just fine with gaming and HD video.

The One isn't aimed at hardcore gamers but at people who want a compact computer,

looks like a great deal - would i be mad to consider buying this as a glorified telly for the bedroom?

(looking for a small sized (15-20") device with a built in dvd player - need something we can both use easily, and hang on the wall).

Upgrading to 3 years only costs an extra £40

Well Worth it!

Looks like £58 for 3 years support ?

Is this deal only available from Dell US? The link takes me to their US site.

Don't know why this is so hot. Whats so special in the price?

Hi,

Why wood I prefer XPS One, can someone put some light on this. I dont critisize Dell. I dont understand the difference why these XPS One? comparing with the below config?

Errrr......Size????? That link is to a normal size desktop...the XPS One is basically incorporated into the screen (as the base under the stand).

Why do people pay more for tiny laptops? Because they want smaller.

This is a picture of an iMac, but it illustrates the same point. The iMac is an all in one system like the XPS One and beside it is a regular desktop tower PC like the HP Pavilion.
