Upgrade to a 6 cell Lithium-Ion Battery for no extra charge

Been slightly cheaper @ £351 with 2Gb memory

Well spotted, longside! This is a good deal.

If my company hadn't just bought me a new XPS M1710 laptop.... 8}

Looks like a good deal...

Don't suppose anyone knows if this (or any Dell laptops) still have parallel ports ? Can't see this information anywhere. (Got an old parallel port printer for which I can get cheap refills and so don't want to replace it unless I have to). Thanks.

I'm sure you can get USB to Parallel connectors so wouldn't need one, eg Newlink N2MTR USB A - 36 Centronic (PARALLEL PRINTER CABLE to USB) at Scan for £8.21 + del..

could do with a free delivery code to make the one with 2GB memory a deal?

how does this laptop compare with the hp in the previous thread?
I need to purchase one for my daughter going to uni soon
thanks

Mike

Bloke in my office was looking for a laptop for his g/f's birthday, so I pointed him to this one. He went for the base dual core processor for an extra £23, and the better battery.

So, on behalf of him, thanks to you and longside for the battery tip, as it's probably something he'd have skipped over without advanced info.

Cheers!

[that's two Dell computers in 2 months you got from me, Mike! - you really should be on commish!]

is this a good deal?!

Does this have TV out (s-video) ?

No parallel port.

Yes, BUT unless your budget is extremely tight, go for the processor upgrade at £23.

The sempron is borderline ok, but the upgrade takes it to very usable.

Shame, thanks for the info though.

Given the choice I would go for the 6400. Nice bit of kit.

I have the same dilemma between the vostro and 6400.
If it was based purely on spec i would go for the 6400 everytime as to me is represents best value for money.

Unfortunately i have been unable to get an answer to my question about the weight of the 6400, this is the deciding factor as i travel a lot. This is the only thing holding me back from my purchase.

All the specs for all dells kit is available on their website, just takes a little bit of looking for. Weight with 6 cell battery is 2.9kilo

If you're thinking about buying a laptop for travelling I can recommend a Lenovo X60. ( misco.co.uk/app…739 ) I'm typing this on one now - fantastic bit of kit. Superb build quality, more than fast enough for what I need to do and extremely light. You won't even know you've got it in your bag

Go for it. You won't regret it.

Worth the extra £900 then? lol

I really dont know what Viny is on about, follow the instructions on the deal and its £293 delivered to anyone without any extended warranty or a business.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for all the effort you put into "Dell Watch". It's great. I have been stalking fleabay recently for a lappy for my sis. as she starts Uni. in a few weeks.

I have also been keeping an eye on your deals here. I am totally confused now I am quite computer-savvy etc. having built my own a couple of years ago (when it was still economic to do so!). But with laptops I have no idea really. All these different dual cores do my head in. I mean, I am typing this on an old AMD 64 3500+ (desktop) @ 2.2ghz, and I was wondering how these notebook dual cores might compare to it? I.e. I would be happy for my sis. to have a notebook which runs as smoothly as this desktop.

I've been looking at the infamous £411 6400 deal, with the 2180 (1.85ghz) and 2gig ram. How might that setup compare to my 3500+ with 2gig? It seems that this deal can not be broken really, specially with the warranty. Although I am worried that 3 weeks is too short a time for it to be delivered (I know I could just order then cancel etc., but still).

Also, I found a Vostro deal @

wizmarkcomputers.co.uk/hot…htm

which is also exactly £411. That one has a X2 TL60 vs. Core Duo 2180 and a Radeon 1150 (HyperMemory, which is believe means shared memory?) vs. the bog-standard 950 Intel chip on the 6400. Other than that they are the same machine barring asthetics.

Basically, which do you think is a better deal for 411? She only wants it for Word and Photoshop (CS2 will do), so I suppose it doesn't have to be so good, but Photoshop isn't exactly a resource-hater is it!

Anyway, I know this is rpobably the wrong part of the forum, but it;s late and i'm tired. Sorry. Thanks again, and again for any opinion(s).

well when i was filling the form out it said name of buisness so i phoned up and he said if you dont have a buisness you have to take out an extended warranty

Ha! Ha! Ha!:-D

The ways and means of telesales people!!

Tell him/her to go and do it to themselves, then re-order as a sole trader;

your name, trading as: whatever you want to call it.

Now you're a small business:thumbsup:

still available. the things i would add to make it a decent machine would be upgrade to dual core processor and upgrade to dvd+rw + truelife screen but that ups the price to 352

what do you guys think of this for 299 from ebuyer ebuyer.com/UK/…115 comes with smaller screen and half the ram but has a card reader, TV out 3 usb ports

Is it worth spending £36.65 on 1 of these Belkin F5D7230 Wireless Router DSL/Cable at the time of purchase?

Bought 1 tonight!
Upgraded the processor and batteries as advised
Changed the from Vista to XP (don't trust Vista yet)
& bought the Belkin F5D7230 Wireless Router

£353.98 and clicked thro' Quidco for the 5%

Dell give 5% on Quidco, minus VAT & delivery, so should work out around another £12.50 discount

Grand total - £341.48

Top bargain for my needs!!!

Even if you up the spec of the Dell, this Laptop from Tchibo, which I've been considering comes out cheaper with loads of extras (3 year guarantee, Vista Premium, 160Gb HDD, 2Gb RAM, DVD RW, integrated webcam, speakers, bag, headset, scroll mouse) and I would like to see what others, particularly MikeT think. ]http//ww…ABE
