anyone got one of these does it make a hot coffee ?
We've got a Magnifica 5400 and you can adjust the temp of the final brew. Eight years old, thousands of cups and still works like new. Don't forget to join the Delonghi coffee club and get free stuff like servicing and descaler fluid.
Does this do a tidy espresso? I know some of the machines don't build enough pressure to do a 'proper' espresso
Just noticed it's 15 bar
As we all know the RRP is a figment of someone's imagination, but this really is a steal at this price. Like Tapasman, I have had the 5400 for several years and it is still going strong. Plenty different settings to adjust the strength and/or size of cup. We also have one of the higher end models which includes the automatic milk frother. It wasn't worth the extra in my view.

Glad we didn't bother then! We mostly use it for espresso, only number one daughter uses milk when she visits, so the automatic milk frother would have been totally wasted on us.

You wont regret it, they're decent machines and as you're buying it new you'll get a free service after twelve months from a DeLonghi engineer if you register on their site.

Does it make hot coffee as i read someone saying its not boiling hot ?
I either warm up normal cups first or use double walled Bodum cups then temperature isn't an issue. Use normal cold cups and then it is
Well, its hot enough for me, but you don't want it boiling anyway - using a cold cup as well will drop the temp of the coffee from the off.

We don't use the warming tray above the machine, instead I've programmed the steam/hot water wand to put a 25cl shot of boiling water in the cup to warm it up which I tip out before hitting the go button.

Yes true not boiling but a nice warm temp i dont want to chuck away £300 notes if its not a good machine
How does this compare to - https://m.johnlewis.com/sage-by-heston-blumenthal-the-duo-temp-pro-espresso-coffee-machine/p/1749201

I know it's not bean to cup but I prefer the flexibility of a separate grinder as I rarely use beans.

I got the etam 29.510.sb from john lewis two days ago for £275. Its £350 but they have a code for £75 when you trade in any coffee machine. I used the code online and it accepted anyway without obviously trading anything. Perfect

Would you mind briefly explaining the difference between this deal and the one you bought for the unintiated coffee lovers

Fair enough I've got to invest in one of these at some point. It's a lot of money though for what it is - and so I can't justify not being satisfied with the one I buy Almost need to test drive them for a week!! There's quite a selection of choice.

There is mate, tbh this looks very nice with the digital. As far as I can tell, my one is newer but that wont distract from older models, the 4200 is still considered one of, if not the best but its a big old machine. Get what suits you

Ive gone from a tassimo to a nespresso to one of these

Bean to cup machines are a gift from the gods. Good price, heat added.
This is an excellent machine. I absolutely caned mine. It eventually died because I was very naughty regarding descaling, I put something like twice the anticipated life-time brew cycles through it (no I don't remember the numbers). I replaced it with a Phillips/Saeco from Amazon.de, which I like, but I don't think is going to last as long.

You need to warm your cup up beforehand if you want your coffee really hot. These machines are made to produce coffee at a temp lower than boiling to preserve the flavour etc etc.

That said I did a little experiment for you. I brewed the following in my Delonghi Primadonna S using the highest temperature setting and measured the temperatures:

Long espresso unwarmed cup- 73.8C
Long espresso warmed up cup- 72.3C a bit of an anomaly here, poured that off and brewed another one - 73.1C

Also did a regular espresso shot which was 73.3C

Hope that helps. I find the coffee just right on the highest temp setting.
And the free gift set that I assume you'd get with this or the JL machines looks good.

how many cups did u get out of it ?
I've been looking for something like this for ages. It appears to be discounted because it is end of the line, but it really is an absolute bargain for the price. Shall get myself one this afternoon!
Ooohhhhhhhhhhhh......

That is how Espresso is meant to taste!

I seem to remember it was around 36,000 and that I had seen a "life-time" figure of about 18,000. It was certainly in excess of 30,000 as I know it worked out t less than 1p per brew.

It was that good that I am seriously tempted, but probably won't yield.
You're getting me worried now last time I checked, a year or so ago, we were about 15,000!
How does the 'active cup warmer' work on this machine, is it always on when the machine is on? Certain setting? Thanks

You have to switch it on in the settings. Pretty useless, much easier to just fill the cup with boiling water first
Anyone got one of these any good?

I had one for several years, until I killed it (comment above). I foolishly replaced it with a Philips/Saeco (Saeco produced the original domestic bean-to-cup machines). Philips/Saeco is dying after less than a year. I picked up a new ECAM23.420 today.

Yes they are good. The code has expired, but they have dropped the price so not really any difference. Buy and enjoy.
