Same in Amazon

I bought this ones bigger sister. I only use to have 3 coffees a day .Now I won't even move till I have had 3. I love it

I've got one of these and it's brilliant! Highly recommended. And this is a good price.

Will this do an Americano or just espresso? Torn between this and the Nespresso Vertuo.

The steam wand can dispense hot water for americano.

Got one last year for the same price. Makes decent coffee, but not as good as other more expensive machines.i wish I spent more money...

pods are ok if you only want a few cups a day if not the cost soon mounds up even with aftermarket pods.

Got one, fantastic. Ben to cup is the future.

I have this machine and I'm very happy with it. It does pay to experiment with the beans to find one that grinds easily. These work out loads cheaper than the pods and much more eco friendly!

We already have a Nespresso machine, but are also tempted by the new Vertuo. The crema it makes is amazing, but each pod flavour also dictates what size drink the machine dispenses. Eg the Stormio capsule always makes a 414ml drink. (Not usually a problem for me to drink almost a pint of coffee!)

Will this make a mug of coffee with one button press, or do I have to fiddle with the wand to add hot water?

What's some good cheap beans to use with this machine

Just make an espresso then add hot water from the kettle , that’s what I do with mine. The built in water/steam wand takes to long to fill a cup.

The best deal for beans is probably from Lidl. 1.49 per 200g pack. The Colombian is remarkably good for the price, good body and hint of acidity. A friend uses the Italian, but I found that to be a bit thin, a matter of personal choice, still good value. Aldi is not as good, and in general the supermarket brands are a bit of a mixed bunch, you have to try for yourself.

BTW I spent 20 years as a Coffee Buyer, and have been brewing espresso at home for 40.

Bought the machine last night at 9pm, then went through to Lidl for some test beans. Thanks, @bytemaster! Had more sense than to start making espressos at 9pm last night, so will have a play with it today.

Enjoy!

BTW Amazon have been running some deals on the Waldoclean descaler products, tablets and liquid over the last couple of days. A lot cheaper than DeLonghi. I have never tried them but have some on order. Hard water and failure to descale is about the only way to kill these machines, with the exception of the clown who tried to top up the water tank through the decaff hopper.

Just use citric acid from wilko. Just dissolve 1oz in hot tap water and run the cleaning cycle. Just do it once a month. A box will cost you £1.75 and will do 10 months.

@bytemaster

I had a cup of the Lidl beans yesterday, with each dial set half-way and I was blown away - it was fantastic.

Today, on the same settings, it's tasting bitter with an aftertaste like stale tobacco. I'm not sure what to tweak. I've tried turning down the amount of coffee dial - thinking I was making it too strong - and then the amount of water dial, thinking I was overextracting and getting tannins. Didn't seem to help.

Could it be that the beans have gone past their best after only one day in the hopper?

Another point; when a drink has finished vending the manual says to press either 1- or 2- cup button within three seconds to add hot water. But that's before the machine has ejected the grounds, so isn't that simply over-extracting the grounds? I've tried putting a fresh cup under the spout at this point and the "hot water" is coloured rather than running clear.
