    Where they from?

Country of origin will not be listed for a reason. I've found that with a number of medjool dates from Aldi, Lidl, Asda and Sainsbury's.

As far as I know, stating the country of origin on fruit and vegetables is a legal requirement in the UK. gov.uk/foo…how

Please email Lidl with product details (barcode, store etc) asking the country of origin, and why it is not displayed on the packaging as per UK law.

You may find them take it if the shelves.

If a thorough explanation is not provided, you could report to the Food Standards Authority

They shud allow country of origin so customers know where they are sourced from.

They replied to my request stating that their supplier says they produce the dates “across Israel” - even though I’d asked for both country and specific area(s) in the country of origin, so they are likely omitting this detail to avoid admitting that the production is occurring on illegal Israeli settlements. Please AVOID buying these dates.

Only buy branded authentic dates , yaffa or zaytoon. Avoid anything unbranded or hidden place of origin. They have alot to hide.

I noticed some on sale in lidl that looked good but nowhere on the packaging listed a origin, even the side of the carton they were all batched in. Even loose items or produce need the origin label listed.

some fruits are sprayed or coated with shellac or beeswax (both animal products) to make them last longer and also give them a shiny look , so technically even though they are just fruits they won't be suitable if you are a strict vegan

Ok stupid question; what makes dates deluxe or luxury?

Medjoul are know for being an expensive variety

I keep well away If they are from a certain country and always check before purchasing
  11. AstalaVista's avatar
Picked up some from Sainsbury's and they were from Jordan.
If no origin is specified then no purchase for me but stock-up a little when they do

It's part of their 'deluxe' range. Similar to other supermarkets that have a 'Finest' or 'Taste the Difference' range.

Probably a bit of a con

    Dates can have insects ?

How do they stop the insects getting in the vegan ones?

These dates are good. Other brands tend to be awfully sticky, whereas these you can eat without a napkin.

THere are much much better dates and brands to spend your money on than this one!

No, Im sure it's just lidls own higher range products. Does not necessarily mean it's top quality.

Definitely find out origin before purchasing.

Also Lidls deluxe stuffed dates last year had to be recalled due to concerns of salmonella. Hmmm
