Why? two completely different products. You do know the difference …Why? two completely different products. You do know the difference between an amplified speaker and an AV amplifier

It was just a joke regarding some of the idiotic comments people often make on these types of threads.

How much of an upgrade would this be over the Sony STRDN1080

A good upgrade, but I'd wait for HDMI 2.1 AV's.

good price, surprised no comment about being able to get a cheap soundbar from argos for £40

Brilliant receiver. Bought mine just before Christmas and now have it powering an Atmos setup.

eBay, Shpock, Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace
Are those coal mines or tin mines being delivered?
Some advice would be appreciated.

I planing to upgrade from my Logitech z906 in near future I like the Logitech it's great for the cost but it was a temporary setup.

I would really like a proper Av so i can decode the best track on blu ray disc and not be stuck with DTS / DD.51 and improve dialogue if possible.

My question is would It be pointless upgrading to something decent if I just want the sound at normal level not loud so my neighbours can hear it. Would it be a waste of money if I have to keep volume at a normal level.

I just want best quality sound with clear dialogue

Dynamic Volume (or auto volume) helps a lot. AV's have features like this to reduce the dynamic range.
Has this Denon model fixed the well documented issues regarding connection problems with Sky Q boxes?

An AVR and 5.1 setup is (generally speaking) overkill if you need to keep the noise levels down at all times. They also take up a lot of space, which is probably an issue if you live somewhere that the neighbours can hear your TV.

Take a look at the higher end soundbars like the Yamaha YSP-2700, which can decode HD tracks and allow for the volume of individual channels (including the centre for dialogue) to be adjusted.

I don't have to keep volume right down I have never had anyone complain, when I have my Logitech at a decent level where, just dialogue can be so low sometimes on Logitech on some films even with center speaker on highest level.

where I have my TV room I have no one on either side of each walls and no one below me and space not a issue.

Will look into the soundbar you mentioned as it's probably a waste having a decent setup unless you can ramp it right up

That's typical with movies... Sound is mixed at reference level which is loud for a home setting.
But it's not Onkyo!

thats if he has a TV compatible with a HDMI 2.1 port which only really the 2019 model onwards do, other than that getting a 2.1 AV is useless right about now, content for it is next to nothing too..

It's £700 though, and not something people upgrade every year. I would still wait.

Yeah I'm also waiting - can't deny that that there's no 2.1 support at the moment, but i personally probably wouldn't upgrade an AV for at least 5 years - probably at least 7 years tbh

And after all that time 2.1 might actually be worthwhile, actually it won't as everything will have moved on. The current AVRs have all the parts of 2.1 that are worth having anyway.

Only people who might possibly find it useful in the near future will be buying much higher end kit than this.
is it still working ?

exactly, people are so quick to be like oh wow i need this tech and that tech. Like 4k and 8k when they were in there infancy, and look now, 4k selection has increased but its taken a good few years.

Look at your current set up, your TV, the content available and your speakers and tell me if 2.1 is worthwhile waiting for this year or next year. Most likely the answer will be no, this is the best receiver at this price point and will be for years to come.
Great price. Imax enhanced support , eARC and HDCP2,3
Great value at this price.
Where are the speakers though?
Picked up last year's equivalent model, the AVRX3500 from Richer Sounds for £499 + 6 year Guarantee. Very little difference between the 2. A superb piece of kit. No problem using with Sky Q either. Relatively easy to set up with a pretty good Graphical user interface (GUI).

Re Price, it's just a matter of getting the timing right. I would personally hold off for now as I feel the price will drop further in the next few months.

Otherwise if you're ready to upgrade would have no problem recommending it.

You can put off stuff for ever. There's always going to be some minor change/improvement every year regardless of whenever you jump on board.

I picked up last's year model at £499 and am delighted with it. Had nearly a year's entertainment from it so far and expect many more

HDMI revisions like HDMI 2.0 to 2.1 don't happen all the time. You don't have to wait, but I would. It's just my opinion.
rev606/02/2020 15:04

At a store ready for you to buy!

I hop it is not £ 199.99 per speaker.
