Great bit of kit - I bought one a little while ago (for £50 more!) and it was a significant improvement sound wise on my 9 year old Onkyo.
I have two speakers and a sub connected to an old hand me down amp linked into a heos link. Would this be overkill as I could probably get £100 for the heos link making it a good price at £200?
I got one for 444 EUR.... great receiver, only one issue - due ARC switched on it always goes to TV Audio even so it was previously left at cable tv. But that's normal for ARC and Denon.
Great price with free delivery however it would appear that Severnoaks don't don't do any cheap extended warranties like Richer Sounds and their current offer. How reliable are these Denons do we need to extend the warranty beyond 2 years?

Maybe overkill, but you get the advantage of being ready to upgrade your speakers and if using with a TV that supports ARC you will get automatic switching on of the amp with the TV. Also it can decode Dolby digital streams via the HDMI ARC.

They're fairly reliable but from experience, you want an AV warranty extended. Repairs are expensive.
Great deal, but even for the convenience I can't replace my Marantz PM6005. My living room is a mess of hdmi selectors and splitters to output to the TV as well as projector. Maybe when I have a bigger house and finally go 5.1!

I’ve just emailed Peter Tyson to see if they will price match as they have a five year guarantee with it.

Let us know how it goes!
Literally just picked one up from richer in Solihull. They have them in stock there. Same as a previous comment, coming from a 9 year old onkyo so be interested to see the improvement.

I phoned Peter Tyson with no luck. They however have this at £349 but with 5% discount code (5%OFF). Comes out at £331.55, so with the 5 year warranty it works out similar to RS just 1 year less.

Edit: Just purchased from RS over the phone with free delivery on a price match with Severnoaks. Seems some RS stores are honouring free delivery as they have no stock and several thousand units stuck in their warehouse. They shut at 4pm today. Good luck

Considering the same thing. Especially that with richer sounds if you don't claim the warranty after 6 years you can get it back. But that means setting a calendar reminder for 6 years lol and hoping RS still exist down the line. Don't think they will

Give them a ring and ask if they would allow you to order at the £299 price over the phone as there is no stock in your local store or no store near you they have done it for me in the past
Hi guys. Just want to swap my soundbar for 2 floorstanding speakers + 1 central speaker. Do I need av receiver or stereo amplifier? I want to connect speakers to tv via optical cable and be able to play music on them via bluetooth from my mobile. Thanks.

    You'll need something like this.

And thank god for that Disco Dave, Onkyo's are not what they use to be after being aquired by pioneer, unlike Denon which of course is owned by Marantz, what would you rather have, reliable quality from Denon (Marantz) and crystal clear sound,or a Pioneer rebadged without the thud of the old THX approvedunits?

Auto on/off over hdmi is called "hdmi-cec"

Arc states for audio return channel both are completely separate things.

Stereo amplifier will power only two speakers.

To run the central you need AV receiver.

You can't connect speaker to TV. All you can do is connect them to AV receiver, and then the receiver to TV using optical (hdmi is preferred, as long as TV supports ARC)

Q Acoustics 2000 series, 3000series or concepts. Depends on budget.

Think of future potential mate, future potential! This model has most of the technologies needed to get you through the next 5 years.

I'm surprised Onkyo are not up to scratch, especially newer models as a lot of Onkyo stuff is just Pioneer design reamagined. If you get what I mean.
My Pioneer blu ray player has excellent stereo output. I'm quite astonished how good it is.
Got the version before this and they are brilliant amps. Don't bother waiting for new model they only make tiny improvments.

The next thing would be HDMI 2.1 but the 2500 won't have it. I guess all they can do is improve efficiency, sound quality, amplification.

Exactly and from an amp that previously has great reviews etc it's not an easy task to improve it. The only difference of this one to the last one for example was Heos support. If you don't need that why bother. The tiny improvements in sound you will never notice, unless maybe you have them running next to each other and even then will be small.

Thanks a lot for explaining that to me. SO having AV receiver like for instance this one I am able to connect 2 speakers to it or 3 with central one or even 5 if I have that many? Do I need subwoofer when big floorstanding speakers deliver some bass?

    Yes about the speakers.
Go and listen to a few things. If your going to buy small satellite speakers then you do need a sub if you buy 2 floor standing speakers then no you don't need a sub.
    Asmith52931 h, 26 m ago

    £400 max for the speakers

I'm trying to get a hold of the Wharfedale DX2 5.1 speaker set which look great (the DX1 had 5-star from What Hifi) and are £399 with Richer Sounds, but they only apparently have 4 at their warehouse and I'm waiting to see if I can get one. They're £50 more expensive everywhere else.

The other system I've been looking at is the Onkyo SKSHT588 but I can't find as many reviews for them (other than customer reviews) and some people also mention they're rather large and look a bit cheap.
