DENON AVR2808 HOME CINEMA RECEIVER (SILVER) £599.95 - Superfi next best price from a quick search

whathifi.com/Rev…spx - LINK TO THE WHAT HI-FI 'REVIEW' spends half the review going on about the onkyo 875, which i have and would much rather have this at half the price. Nothing about the 875 says £1000 receiver.

When it comes to blending sound quality with features and style, few can beat Denon.

The Denon AVR-2808 is an excellent example of just why Denon are so respected within the AV field. Behind the smart facia lies a wealth of technology ensuring the AVR-2808 is one of the best equipped AV receivers in its class. HDMI 1.3a sockets help support full 1080p audio and video. Getting the best from Blu-ray and other HD sources are the latest High Definition decoders from Dolby and DTS. All this is impressive enough, yet what really marks the AVR2808 out is the attention to detail. The use of discrete devices, a low jitter master clock, AL24 processing and a new 32bit floating point DSP give the Denon AV receiver a level of performance above its rivals. Bass is deep and extended, dynamic contrast clean and crisp and the high end both smooth yet detailed. In short the sound is more convincing than anything else you're likely to hear at this price.

It might be at the forefront of home cinema design, but that doesn't make the AVR2808 difficult to use: quite the opposite in fact. Audyssey's MultEQ XT auto room set-up is one of the best in the business and gives precise set-up control in relation to the room's acoustics. Twin remote controls give the option of controlling the sound output in different zones without having to carry a remote control between rooms.

In addition to the HDMI interface, you'll also find a vast array of sockets including optical, coaxial, phono, component, S-Video and proper 4mm binding posts for all speaker outputs.

For an HD AV receiver with the sound quality to match the specification you need look no further than the Denon AVR2808.

No THX, which I would have expected at the rrp. Bit of a monster as well.

only really worthwhile if your usuing a full 7.1 setup and have a large room. Oh and 2 subs as well

Surely what its selling for NOW is the important figure? Onkyo prove that features are not the most important thing when considering AV (at least IMO) Features dont make a great amp despite what the industry press might have you believe

Silver only..... hehehe!

This colour will date you so much, that you may as will lounge around your living room in a pair of huge Lionel Blairs, Kipper tie & platform shoes, singing "Everybody was Kung Fu fighting .....hoooo.......hah"

Black is the new black.

see i used to think this totally true, i got my new stinkyo-875 in black. Remind me that it shows up your finger prints with each touch, highlights dust and for £100 i aint that bothered. At least its a proper metal facia and not some tacky plastic... see the 875 which what hi-fi recommend over this in silver, Its Ar$e.

My DVD source is gold - i'm thinking this is prob the best colour for AV equipment, tho i admit im bothered it doesnt match my amp.

Only THX select! - who cares about that? ;-) good price for the features, but theres no way in hell that the pioneer VSX-1017AV matches the build quality or sonic reproduction of the Denon. THX (select) or not!

1 HDMI output? What about us with projectors and regular tellies? Surely any AV fan would expect 2 HDMI's?

HDMI splitter? I dont think any A/V amp atm has 2 HDMI outputs. AVR's tend to only ever have one monitor out per connection type - i.e. 1x hdmi out, 1x component out, 1x composite etc.
suggest using component for the tv if ur amp is closer to that and you dont wanna do the splitter option....
