Done a fair digging about looking for a good surround package to kickoff an atmos setup and after eyeing up the monitor audio bronze 5 and q accoustic 3050 packages along with the sony str-dn1080 and the denon I stumbled on this deal which is both the denon and speaker package for the usual price of the speakers alone, amp is £450 everywhere just now. same price at peter tyson and sevenoaks but these guys offering 12 months interest free and £26 in quidco. Still £1319 just for the speakers at Richers Sounds.

Grabbed this last week and finished setting up tonight .... mind blown, now for some atmos upfiring or front height speakers to go with.

Very nice
Dali Alteco C-1’s fit perfect on top of the bronze fronts, advice someone on here gave me and its perfect.
Mmm Denon
Sofa and coffee table
I have MA bronze attached to a Denon AVRX2500. They are a REALLY good match, not just for movies but music too (which home cinema stuff often struggles with in my experience).
Just changed my Sony DN1080 to this Denon X2600 and really amazed at difference in sound through my KEF Q series 7.1.2 set-up. Brilliant amp for the money

Cracking set of speakers you have! I had Q7's many years ago and they served me very well, I've upgraded to Monitor Audio silver's now (yet to open it up and install) but glad you like them too!
I don't need to upgrade.

What's the difference you've noticed?
same price in white:

also to upgrade to atmos capable speakers i assume you will need to replace the speakers, there are no additional dedicated channels on the amp from what i can see?

Would you not connect your atmos speakers to the back surround connections?

Yes. You then specify the speaker configuration in the setup.

Works brilliantly.

I'm using 2 of the old satellites from my z5500 kit until I get some height speakers.
more specifically front height?

my current n950 has front & rear upwards firing speakers

The receiver caters for upfiring, height and in/on ceiling.

Think I'm going to go height due to my swirl and dot artex ceiling.

Those speakers aren't very sensitive and could really do with more power if your spreading it that thin, think you may be even more amazed if you stick a power amp on at least the front two, preferably three.

I have Kef Rs in 5.1.2 and the 3500 wasn't enough when I added the .2, adding external power to the front three was like a whole new system, especially for music which Denon's internal power is distinctly average with at the best of times.

Unless it's particularly deep you should be fine but don't look at anything less than the Altecos for upfiring. For heights you can go small and discreet, just a trade off in the about of faff setting up.

Not bothered at all about running the cables up high, i grabbed some thin white sticky back conduit that's perfect for neatness.

Not too fussed about small and discreet either

Don't think the artex is that thick. Plenty to consider.

Cheers

I was looking at the alteco c1's to sit on top of my q acoustics 2050i. Also the PSB imagine xa's. I want Atmos but the mixed reviews of upfiring puts me off.

Apologies, just realised the 2600 doesn't have pre-outs so not possible.

You need decent speakers to get the most from upfiring Atmos, those 'cheap' Onkyo ones have given it a bad name, and the Altecos are popular for a reason, both for upfiring and height use. I have Kef R50s and wasn't a believer in Atmos etc for the home until I tried them. You often need to boost the level on them by around 3dB from what your AVR will set them at.

Heights are much more forgiving for choice and obviously ceiling ones give the best results. The Minxs are popular as heights for good reason, smallish, available in white etc. and decent quality.

I put them on top of mine. It made some difference but not alot, but I've since wall mounted them on side walls as downfiring and it's alot better.
Any feedback for Monitor Audio apex range ? I have been recommend that over the bronze version
Any one mind commenting on how good these are for music?

I've been considering a Cambridge Audio CXA60 and Monitor Audio Silver 50 speakers but thinking maybe I'd be better off 'investing' in a decent surround setup...but I'm tempted by the idea of having a traditional decent stereo system.

If you want music I would go for a stereo amp, comprises are made to cram everything into an AVR. All amps (and speakers) sound different too so take a CD into a shop to demo how they sound to your ears.

Thanks. That’s what we did on Sunday with the Cambridge Audio kit at Richer Sounds. We don’t have much room for both, so felt this might be a compromise. A lot of reviews say this setup is pretty good for music too and if anything compromises the movie audio.

I seldom listen to music, unless it's in a film Cambridge audio is more music inclined so are mantz receivers (made by same company as denon)
