This system seems to tick all my boxes. A basic system for my kids to do their homework on and play a few games, plus internet/office use.
No video editing or serious gameplay, although I note from youtube, it is fairly capable at playing modern games on low resolution settings:

Online reviews seem favourable.
No comments on fan noise as far as I can tell?
Also, this is not a deal. It seems to be this price all the time!

Web browsing, word processing, I player etc etc - yes
Latest games at high Res - no

good deal
I've bought a couple of these and they are great value for money, the only problem is the PSU is a bit noisy, the motherboard is mini ITX. Aria sell the motherboard for £50 on its own so for £119 it's a bargain.

Dreadful for HD video editing and high res games, yes. But for daily OC use (office/internet/photo editing) ?

I wouldn't use Ubuntu, Linux Mint is a better alternative to Ubuntu now.
Some seriously hard to please people on this site.

For basic tasks even a Raspberry Pi can do it. Just remember the performance of this CPU in terms of just CPU power is akin to an AMD dual core from circa 2005. I personally believe you can get more performance out of this for basic tasks using Linux. You can probably do better than Mint and Ubuntu for performance on this hardware.

Bodhi is based on Ubuntu and is supposed to be very fast.
This is a pretty good deal nice find, Great for basic use and could be a good media server!

Anyone who needs to work at a desk for any length of time as separate keyboard, mouse and monitor allows better positioning to suit body posture and viewing angle. Having a desktop box also allows the possibility of internal hard disk expansion. Easy upgrade path for extra PCI-e I/O cards such as eSATA, Firewire, USB 3, graphics card, midi and soundcard. Cost wise, using 3.5" as c: drive is faster and half the price. More importantly one can upgrade c: drive to SSD and can still keep at least one 3.5" for data. With a laptop, if the screen is bad then very expensive to migrate or repair but with a desktop cheap to replace a monitor. Moreover it is easier to buy a high quality monitor than it is to buy a laptop with high quality screen.

In terms of raw performance this is about as basic as you'd want from a new desktop. For basic tasks it works and does the job. Linux is free and obviously keeps the price to a basic level.

CPU Benchmark for the E-350 is 768?

Yes the performance of this CPU in modern terms is absolutely dire. However it will do basic stuff ok.
I wouldn't imagine anyone would buy it a desktop but its a no brainer for a htpc

Also, (to justify why people still buy desktop) if the CPU is too slow in a desktop, easy to change this compared to a laptop's CPU. Likewise if a laptop CPU fan is noisy it is less easy to change compared with a desktop CPU fan. If you spilt a drink on a laptop keyboard, the laptop may be wrecked. No chance of doing this for a desktop. But of course you can get over some of these potential issues by having additional keyboard, mouse and monitor for a laptop by spending more money.

Yup it could do media serving e.g. XBMC, Plex, NAS box, headless server.

This seems even better value than a HP microserver with it not even needing a graphics card to get going as a HTPC and that it can be upgraded easily to be a silent runner.
e-350 is really pathetically slow for loading internet pages sometime. Got it on a laptop with an ssd but it does not help

You might find you need a wired internet connection to get all the required bits after installing from a disk / pen drive. There is a catch 22 with the wireless drivers needing to be download after installation from the web. A line of code in the terminal is needed to get the non-free driver package with a wired connection up and running, then you can go wireless with drivers usually available for anything contemporary over a few months old.

Personally, I could not go back to Windows.
longbowassassin

anyone who wants one..

any sane person who wants to play pc games.
The cpu / apu with this is fixed on the motherboard. A CPU / APU upgrade will require a new motherboard.

The E350 is low power consumption, low computing power.

On rare occasions these are put up for sale at £119 with free delivery. I have considered buying one but at the end of the day it is just too low powered.

Me. Don't like laptops/ultrabooks/chromebooks (fiddly, and give me a decent keyboard of my choosing; ditto mouse), netbooks are even worse, tablets are fine for messing around with or entertainment, but overall, give me a desktop any day.

I resist the need to always be online wherever I go, so my phone is the only communication I have when I am out and about. And I DO mean a mobile which makes and receives calls and texts, takes a pic when I need to, can remind me to do something or add some figures if I need to...and that's about it.

I will concede that I changed to an all-in-one desktop a while back which I have never regretted (HP Touchsmart) and will probably buy the same type again next time I upgrade.

I love my desktop...:3
