Deter burglars - TV simulator - Lidl instore from 24th Jan £7.99

I remember seeing something similar on Dragons Den. They give the impression that a television is on using flashing leds. Anything that keeps the asbo's at bay is worth investing in....especially at this price.

12 LEDs simulate a TV image to deter burglars
With twilight sensor - switches on automatically in low light
Runs for 4 hours, 7 hours or continuously
Low energy consumption
Free-standing or wall-mountable, materials included
Size approx. (cm): H8 x W8.5 x D4
3 year manufacturer’s warranty
.

This must be regional (if it exists at all) - don't make a special journey unless you know it's going to be in stock. Lidl staff completely unaware of this item, and it doesn't feature in the leaflets for this week at all.

I wonder how long it would take to save the £8 back over simply leaving your tv on

These come on automatically - dusk till dawn - so great for when you are on holiday. Also, the components of your tv have a limited lifespan measured in hours......so why replace a tv when you can replace one of these for £7.99. I'm guessing these will last for years anyway
But you couldn't have your TV come on automatically for 4 or 7 hours - well mine couldn't, it would need the power switched on then a gadget to press a button on the remote
p.s. I like it
How does the 'dusk to dawn' feature work then? I presume it must come on when you turn the lights off when you go to bed, and then goes off when you get up and open the curtains?

Cold - not 1080p
About 250-300 hours at my KWh rate i think, that does not include the power this thing draws, presumably very low as its only 12 LEDs?

It has a photo sensitive cell. I have similar for landing lights. Seems to pick up enough light to switch off in daytime........but no harm in putting it on a timer too...

Didn't work - still not 1080p and won't play my Blu-rays either. Worst TV Simulator ever made!!!

sounds good to me. and the low voltage is good.
Sounds good - until the neighbours phone the police while your on holiday thinking your house has squatters

This should not be voted cold at all. What other dynamic burglar deterrent can you buy for not much more than the price of the components?.

You'd think after being a member for 2 years you'd be able to use the "quote" facility correctly............

Edit. Ah I see you've edited it now - well done!

I got one of these last year for an old house im fixing up, a few of my neighbours have been burgled but thankfully I have had no unwanted attention .. so far.
The builder called round the house one evening to give me a quote, he said he was round knocking at the door but couldnt get any answer, he said he thought I might not have been able to hear him above the TV in the bedroom!
Mine has two settings one for summer time and one for winter time, this determines how long the unit will project light until it shuts down. You can pair it with a lamp on a timer switch for more realism! Costs very little to run as its just a small bank of LED lights.

Is this is true LED or just LED back or side light. I will wait for the OLED ones. Hot though

Great price, just hope it's as convincing as Fake TV.

Could always get an actual burglar alarm - they've been around for years.

But the £7.99 ones tend to be not very good

This is probably quite effective. The biggest fear of most burglars is being confronted by a householder and getting a serious beating, so look for obviously empty properties.

The burglers know that Police do not attend audiable alrarms only central station alarms as they are connected to 999 control and they cost 20-30 quid a month. Only time police will attend is if the neighbours see anything suspicious and no the alarm going off is not suspicious. Best deterent is CCTV linked to your mobile. And if you see something suspicious Police will intend. But the best deterent is bettering schooling.

The best deterrent is better parenting.

Might p#%& the neighbours off, having a radio on loud enough to hear from the pavement.

Honestly, those jokes have been done now.
Better program than current listings.

What's wrong with both? I go to great lengths to stop Burglar Bill from exploring his darkside with my toothbrush.
Its not as good as the Apple one. cold.
Absolute waste of money - only a total berk would think this would work.

Several reasons why

1 - curtains and blinds are a bigger give-away of whether people are at home or not
2 - so is knocking on the door

The idea that burglars look for 'empty looking' houses is a myth anyway - a lot of burglary is opportunistic, they will knock on a few doors and then go back to the ones who don't answer.

Many burglars don't really care if you're in or not anyway - they're looking for pocketable quick thefts - the stuff you leave lying around - they'll be on their toes before you realise they're in (if you're asleep you may remain so!)

A better deterrent would be a fake alarm - or better, a REAL one

Why would you need to have the radio on any louder than it would otherwise be?
