Is it classed as a gaming keyboard if it has back light LED and looks tacky ?

Yes, that's exactly why, what other classification would you put on it?

Anyhow, snobs aside. My son bought this from Minecon a few years ago now, It's still working fine but it is just a clicky, clacky faux mechanical keyboard -Its worth £20 all day long- and it will be fine for kids who'll think the lights are cool.
When you turn the lights off it's all black so you could get them started on the road to touch typing.....
As mentioned, you cannot read the keys with the backlight off. To turn on the backlight you need to press a key, I cannot remember if it was Print Screen, Scroll lock or Pause .... which causes all sorts of problems in many flavours of linux.... It is now the backup to my backup keyboard...
