Devon/Cornwall Rail Card £10 @ National Rail

Found 8th Oct 2014
Only found out about this last week but seems like a really good deal. Did a search on HUKD but couldn't see it posted anywhere so thought I'd let you all know.

This is only for residents of Devon and Cornwall and the rail card is only valid for journeys within Devon and Cornwall.

Once you have purchased your railcard for £10 by going to a station and taking proof of address (Passport/Driving Licence/Utility Bill). You will then get a 33% Discount on all rail journeys within Devon and Cornwall. A second adult travelling with you will also get the 30% discount and up to 4 children can travel with you for a flat fee of £1 each.

Basically this means that even if you only use the train a couple of times a year, it can still actually prove to be worth it.

Example: 2 x Adult return from Barnstaple to Exeter is £19.20. Buy the rail card for £10 and this journey then costs £12.80. Do this journey twice in a year and it has cost £35.60 with the railcard instead of £38.40

Admittedly there are not many train lines in Devon and Cornwall but this should still save some people a bit of money.

Enjoy!

Good deal, though once a year on the barnstaple to exeter sardine express, is more than enough for me! But heat any way as its local

You can also combine the Devon and Cornwall railcard with things like the little known Devon Day / Evening Ranger ticket which covers from Plymouth to Axminster (unlimited travel). The Evening ranger costs approx £3.30 when purchased with the railcard, this means that you can then get a cheap Train ticket from Megabus for an onward journey in to Clapham or Waterloo, if you're lucky you'll pay just £6.00 one way for the Axminster to London SWT but (If journey time is not the main factor then this can work out a Cheap way into London.)

This is well racialist. What happens if you live in Bristol ?

For today only there is 40% of railcards with code 40YEARS making a national railcard only £18

yeah.. like when somebody sees a deal for a camera or crisps etc in Manchester and its only their asda or Tesco and not nationwide. its so wrong....or Football teams also offer cheap tickets at times and mine doesn't .. its not racist, its just where the offers are.

Thank you, was going to get one of the 16-25 railcards for my son who visits his father in Paignton (I live in Exeter), now will get this one. However, one query, can it be used for a return ticket if he say, goes down today and then comes back on Saturday, or is it for day returns only? Thank you.

Yes want to move there.

I have one of these and have done on and off for years it is great value and deffo worth investing in. It can be used on day return journeys or open returns xx

This is a great deal, didn't know this existed. Got a 16-25 Railcard so have no use for this, but I'm glad there's a cheap way for all to get travel in Cornwall and Devon. I'm constantly travelling between St. Ives, Newquay, Liskeard, and Plymouth, there's some great train journeys down in these parts.

Thanks OP. Do Torquay to Newton Abbot return a fair bit so it'll soon pay for itself.

The camera isn't only available to people living in Manchester though is it? nor do you have to support the football team to get the cheap tickets though do you? Nor do the government subsidise any of the camera's or football tickets!

Thanks for this ,do Plymouth to Exeter a fair bit ..never knew this was available .

Also for those moaning about it being Devon /Cornwall only here's a page with other regions available nationalrail.co.uk/tim…spx
