The 796 is the one you want, significantly better and still one of the best in its price range.

Unfortunately this one here isn't a good deal.

type dcd778 on youtube and you will see it is plastic chuck. it is a good drill for home diy. but 796 and 996 are much better. 996 is the best.

Search HotUKDeals for it - it was a little less recently, I got one from Travis Perkins on clearance but had to drive for it, so £150 might be the best price. I got a 4ah battery in the recent Amazon deal, but it makes the drill quite heavy so stuck to the 2ah so far.

The 796 has the same specs as the newer 797 minus the Bluetooth tracking and customisation feature, so its very almost DeWalt's highest spec compact. Compare the specs if you're interested in details.

Agreed, looks like they have changed it in a later revision.. the 996 is a lovely drill I have one, but overkill for most, myself included.. either you have suggested in fact are good, but I expect this one is still good relative in cost

I agree with you too! for most of home DIY the 778 would be more than enough... and with 2x4ah batteries and charger + case is not a bad deal anyway.
How would this compare to the Einhell PXC TE CD18Li-I deal?
Tool police are out this morning I see.
This drill is spot on for any diyer and most trades who use it a couple of times a day.
I’ve been building new workbenches and other crap (according to the wife) for two years with mine... it’s more than capable.
996 is better but who cares... it costs more so it’s an apples and pears argument again...
Rubbish tool for this price, definitely plastic chuck. I have a 795 which came with 2x 2.0amh batteries fir this price 3 years ago. Much better drill. But your paying for the batteries

Anyone got discount at B&Q the 795 is a superior drill diy.com/dep….ds

Otherwise the 796 at toolstation above is by far the one to go for!
Alb_Alb19/10/2019 22:56

plastic!

This is metal chuck.

Model dcd778 you find somewhere else has plastic chuck but in this Screwfix set, drill has fully metal chuck exactly same as dcd796 has.

Agree with ya, my 996 is an animal. Much stronger than my original dewalt.

Haha, animal is the right word for it, its own torque twists your wrist when not even drilling in to anything, there's not much that it can't drill in to.. would decimate flat pack furniture though
