I've got one of these - works great in my house and the 4 port switch built in is a great idea, it could only be improved if it had a pass-thru on it.

not sure on this product - isn't the switch just going to be a hub here?
if the signal going through the mains is 100mbps each way then the total of all signals cant be more? thought a switch kept each input with its own 100mbps available to use but surely this has to share?

I think you are correct - even though the switch is capable of managing each input, everything that goes through the AV plug has to share the 100Mbps each way.

Edit: does avoid the need for a separate switch requiring another power point so good idea.

I hear you but, you need to to view the switch as providing the network backbone with the powerline interface merely an extension to an individual port on it. So within the 5 ports (incl powerline i/f) you have discrete connectivity.

my head almost popped there but yeah i see what you mean now.
i guess i was focussing on the powerline part thinking everything into the switch would have to come out the plug part when it may not have to.

Generally speaking if the traffic is between 2 devices on the same switch then the traffic only needs to go through the switch and no further.
