Consider any of the Die Hard films and you'll find that the concept is fundamentally the same: one man up against thousands, with no shoes and lots of guns. Now think video games for a minute and it soon becomes apparent that Die Hard films are just basically first-person shooters in movie form (obviously the shoes reference isn't always relevant). So it should come as no surprise to see the Die Hard license making its way to the world of gaming. Debuting on the GameCube in November 2002, Die Hard: Vendetta is now available for the PlayStation 2, delivering the same stealth-based, FPS action, albeit with a couple of extra features thrown in.

The story behind this game is pretty simple. Five years after the events of Die Hard with a Vengeance, calamity-stricken McClane is back working the streets of LA, as is his daughter Lucy. Taking after her father, she has joined the police force and at some point along the line has ended up getting herself into a whole heap of trouble. Who's gonna sort it all out? We think you all know that one.

Assuming the role of everybody's favourite 'wrong place/wrong time' anti-hero, players embark on an explosive mission that features all the intrigue, suspense, stealth and surprises synonymous with the movies. Along the way, players battle through several distinct locations, including a return to the original Nakatomi Plaza, as well as a host of unique and inventive set pieces.

Sadly lacking in the GameCube version was the inclusion of a multiplayer mode, but that's been remedied now, as two to four players are now able to take part in the intense action. Players are able to incarnate up to 100 different characters, play in 14 areas and a number of game modes such as King of the Hill and Deathmatch. New and limited weapons from the single player game are added to the multiplayer mode, including Boxing Gloves, Minigun and the Paintball gun.

If you've ever watched a Die Hard film and found yourself wondering what it might be like to be in John McClane's shoes (or bare feet) for a while, then this might well be your chance to find out. And all from the safety of your living room as well.
